Why children of married parents do better, but America is moving the other way

Is a decline in Christianity and in effect, the institution of marriage, having a negative effect on our children?
It will be interesting to see how single parenthood increases in states with very strict abortion laws.

Another problem is US culture to encourage nuclear families as the ideal. It is not ideal. It actually causes many of the issues seen with single parents the nuclear family concept is two parents plus children living separately from any extended family. In the US this may be at quite a distance as children move away to other cities or states. Now, should the relationship end, there is no close support system to help the now single parents.

Maybe now that the nuclear family of the 50s is just not financially possible and the uncertainty of retirement for the post boomer generations, more multi generational homes will become favorable which has a built in support system.

The article discusses marriage vs. single parents raising children. Christianity was not discussed in the article, but I am sure it factors into the decline to some extent.
