yeah, just yesterday an atheist shouted at me for not having a beard "like my jesus", i then replied that jesus didnt have a razor, like i do, to keep his chin clean and would probably shave if he had the chance, he then replied that i didnt really know that since our lord and saviour was never introduced to male hygene supplies and maybe he kept the beard as a sign of his faith to which i replied that a beard is not really a sign of faith and he replied that other religions had used bodily hair as a decree of purity, then i called those churches pagan and made him leave my car. but as i got to thinking later, while i was looking through the notes i had taken in church that day, i saw that there was actually no stories from jesus involving a razor and that i didnt actually know if he kept his beard by choice or not

We don't actually know that Jesus did have a beard. We assume he did, because it was the cultural norm for men of his time and place, and it isn't mentioned that he didn't have one.

But having a beard or not having one (or any other kind of man-made traditions, behavioral standards, or dress codes) has nothing at all to do with following Christ. It isn't a matter of external baloney like that, but of believing in your heart that He died on the cross for our salvation and rose again, and of confessing Him as Lord (Romans 10:9-10). And if you have made Him your Lord, you'll want to do what He taught.

We often hear an unbeliever say how he has no problem with Jesus, just his followers. Ghandi is credited with saying as much. Yet, just how legit is that argument? I mean, of course, we try to present the Gospel truthfully, clearly, and in love as well as live righteously ourselves, but in the end, are we not still Christ's ambassadors and laborers in this vast harvest field? When we witness to an unbeliever and he rejects it, does he actually have an excuse in the Bible's view?

I believe all we can do is plant the seed of the gospel and it is up to God who convivts and changes a heart. But I do believe we will be held accountable for our actions as well. We very well may be the only Bible a person has ever read, or Jesus a person has ever encountered and that's why we as Christians have to be very careful about our mannerisms and speech when we are seen. The fruit of the spirit has to be seen always not just in a church on Sundays but in the workplace as well.

What difference does it make what a person looks like on the outside? It's the inside that counts.

There is no such thing as "Evil Christians" This in itself is self negating. A Christian is one who follows the teachings of Christ and cannot call himself a Christian if he commits evil deeds. One cannot be a Christian and put money above life! Gandhi in many ways was more Christian than many self professed Christians.

One should not use Christianity as a tool to profit or political gain.

I am an atheist but accept most of what Jesus taught us and "hate" is not one of them.

As an European I also find great differences between some American Christians and their brethren in the rest of the world. Many Christians in the US mix politics with their faith. I have seen in CF posts that attest to this such as: "The US is the fourth horseman of the revelations" or "America is Gods chosen nation to lead the world", etc. Also the act of frowning science as something that is against God is very wrong. I have seen on televangelist channels; preachers saying that God loves the rich and that Jesus was not poor!

A little humility will most certainly go a long way on the path to righteousness.

Also a poster here said that Jesus did not have a razor to shave? The Romans were clean shaven but not the Jews because in the Culture of the Jews at the time it was customary for men to carry beards. Jesus was a Jew and as a male Jew he adhered to the customs of his culture.

What many "fervent Christians" need to do is to calm down and not mix politics and other heterogeneous things with their faith.

I wish you all a happy day!

Is it? I don't remember that scripture. Can you point me to it?
My mistake its a prophecy in Isaiah 50:6: I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.

I started to look it up last night but it was late, I should have went that extra mile

my apology
