The indigenous peoples of the Americas were in many cases purposely infected by these "missionaries" in the name of their god... your god too I believe. It was ok to kill them since they were heathens. The people killed by atheistic states were not killed in the name of religious faith but by people who had no faith for other reasons entirely. You're right... it's not like the deaths caused by the "aforementioned atheists"... it's worse.

That might have happened to a few villages where armed villagers would not surrender, ie some Lakota plains indians, but it wasn't the rule. Especially in central and south America where gold mines and tobacco/sugar plantations needed cheap slave labor. Between the hardships of slavery, killing off the buffalo, and introducing booze the Indians pretty much lost their power. There was never an effort to exterminate them on any grand scale. The US actually treats the natives here with free medical care for life on tribal land. Its not paradise but its free healthcare which isn't available to us.

We're not just talking about North America (hello? there is a world out there! ;) )

Ferdinand Columbus's biography of his father: "The soldiers mowed down dozens with point-blank volleys, loosed the dogs to rip open limbs and bellies, chased fleeing Indians into the bush to skewer them on sword and pike and with God's aid soon gained complete victory, killing many Indians and capturing others who were also killed.

An obviously back at home, good old witch craft was getting a bashing...

In the 1400s, the Inquisition shifted its focus to witchcraft. Priests tortured untold thousands of women into confessing that they were witches who flew through the sky and engaged in sex with the devil -- then they were burned or hanged for their confessions. Witch hysteria raged for three centuries in a dozen nations. Estimates of the number executed vary from 100,000 to 2 million. Whole villages were exterminated. In the first half of the 17th century, about 5,000 "witches" were put to death in the French province of Alsace, and 900 were burned in the Bavarian city of Bamberg. The witch craze was religious madness at its worst.

But we are digressing and getting into stupid point for points that are only exposing how all people can be cruel.

But tell me, why do people WITH religion and a belief in God commit these acts. Why is religion so confused and obtuse to allow dogmas, teachings and interpretations to be used as an excuse to perform these acts.

No-one kills in the name of no religion - they kill people out of hatred, power and dislike. Things that religion seems to have no power to stop and infact is frequently used as an excuse to start!
