i don't, and that's not what i was implying.

By saying you don't think there should be standards for a SO, I got the impression that you were, in fact, implying such a thing. Having standards/expectations will often times hurt the other person inadvertently. However, that's no reason not to have them. People get hurt all of the time. That's Life™. When we're talking about a life partner, someone you're -supposed- to spend the rest of your life with, it's often a necessity to have such things so that you as well as your partner will feel comfortable. Opposites don't attract, contrary to the saying.

Standards/Expectations =/= Perfection. We all have limits, things we can't handle, things that, when exposed to them, will harm us in more than just physical aspects. Having standards/expectations in a relationship helps people avoid that, so that their relationship is a happy one.

Well I've been dating a girl for a month and a half but not exclusively (she still has 'single' on her facebook profile) so I'm single because I haven't DTRed. Being English the whole concept confuses me and I have no idea when I'll know the time is right.

My husband and I did the dating-but-not-exclusive thing for about a month in the beginning and frankly I eventually just had to flat out ask him where we were going and what he saw for the future so that we could both get on the same page. The whole "casual" thing was never for me, and it was severely confusing. Sometimes you just have to take a flying leap toward the questions in order to figure it out.

There isn't necessarily a right or wrong time to go from non-exclusive to exclusive; it's all about both parties being informed and in-the-know, as in having discussions on a semi-regular basis on how you both feel about the relationship and where it's headed.

So if you aren't in-the-know... get in it :D

The whole "dating but not exclusive" thing never really made sense to me. If I like a girl enough to be dating her, I don't plan on asking other girls out on dates, unless those girls are already really close friends. And in that case, I wouldn't count those as "date dates".

Single by choice because there was too much nonsense going on in my life. So I decided to just concentrate on getting my life on track, I was in the process of converting to Christianity, and the kind of girls I would go out with were/are bad news... It was hard too, because at one point there were 3 girls I could have hooked up with, it was tempting, but they definitely were the wrong kind...

Anyhow, still single, though now I'm open to start dating again.
