Why are you a creationist?

And those ideas came from... ?

The point I am trying to get to, is where these ideas come from. I, for example, didn't just wake up and accept biological evolution as an explanation for the diversity of life on Earth. It was after spending over a year reading web sites and books, and debating the topic online.

I am wondering the same thing of creationists. Where did creationists get their ideas from? What made them adopt these ideas?

Which questions do you have regarding evolution that have not been answered to your satisfaction?

It used to be important to me to get those answered. Not so much anymore. If I ever get the itch, you'll have the chance to scratch it in some other thread

Actually, this is untrue. Science does have material causes for the origin of earth. Quite detailed explanations as a matter of fact. For the origin of the universe the Big Bang is a pretty comprehensive theory. So comprehensive that many creationists accept it as true: www.reasons.org

Sure SCIENCE in general looks at origins, but in my experience is that EVOLUTIONISTS do NOT.

Evolution is not the study of origins. It's the study of the variation of life.

Creationists tend to expect pert little answers that correspond to "god did it." When you don't get those you tend to get all jumpy. But science is like that, you may get more than you bargained for. So if you're talking about how life evolved and all the possibilities within and you suddently start talking about abiogenesis you'll get directed back on topic.

Well to answer the question of this thread I would have to say that I am a creationist, or for my sake a Christian, because of the evidence. I grew up a Christian but when I became a teenager I turned away and set out to do what felt good. I quickly felt the pit fall of this, and after a couple of years decided to take a new look at God. I set out to see if their really was anything in the facts that would lead to such a “weird” conclusion. I wish I could have a conversion story that happen in some great revelation one night, but that’s not what happened. The facts just started piling up on one side and were lacking on the other. And over a long period of time I made a decision to follow God. In short my search for truth. Be nice with that word, every time I mention the word “truth” someone always comes back and so cleverly states “what is truth, how do you define truth, truth is what we make it. So you are only searched for evidence that supported YOUR truth.” Oh man it never fails. Take note that this is a personal story and not a science paper for all to see the proof of God by my claims of evidence.

Anyways, I was interested at an early age (around three) with dinosaurs. Not just a Jurassic Park-interest; I was academically fascinated by them. It was through that that I learned about evolution. I accepted the theory of evolution and the millions of years blindly without any thought that they might be wrong.

However, at the same time, I read the Bible fanatically, especially Genesis. So I accepted Creationism. At the same time. Sort of an Orwellian double-think.

So, I accepted both at the same time. I probably thought of evolution being more exciting than Genesis- millions of years of animals fighting to the death, survival of the fittest, etc. I probably thought of it as a "fairy tale", which Creation is usually compared to.

It was when I was conformed that I abandoned evolution. It was a few years ago that I totally accepted Creationism. The kid who was once renowned for being a "dinosaur scholar" was against it. Go figure.

Its possible because its possible for christians to believe that God created, but he created using evolution, and to accept that they way they originally Thought the bible should be interpreted was wrong.

Not all Christians believe that. It's not an integral part of Christianity. And I personally don't think this man-made theology is justified.
