Why Are We Tested?

I’ve thought a lot about this lately. Plus many people have asked me this question.

This made me think about being a Christian and going through hardships, deaths, hunger and many other trials. Here’s what came to mind:

I see each one of us as a 10 foot high, weather proofed fence and we’re nailed to two post that are buried into the ground. We’re standing out in an open field. The rain, wind, hail and sun hit us every day. Not all at once, but they take their turns. If we remain solid we’ll be knocked down within a short period of time. But if for every trial we go through leaves a little hole in us, we’ll survive a little longer. The more we go through, the more we can withstand all kinds of weather, trials, and keep on going. This is a testament as to what God can do for us.

Another though is how we can know about things without knowing both sides. I’ll try to explain this further. Growing-up we start learning by experience. We touch something hot and it burns us. We learn not to touch something that is hot and keeps getting hotter the closer we get to it. How can we know Love without knowing hate. The list goes on and on.

Now for someone that doesn’t know God. We have the same fence, only after a few short seasons it has blown down and in need of repair. The owner of the fence comes by and thinks, why did the fence with the holes remain standing and mine blew down? As he stands there he realizes that because of the holes, the wind and beating rain passed through the holes and reduced the storms effect on them. So he goes out and picks-up his fence and drills some holes in it. He then nails it back up. He steps back and smiles, knowing that his fence will withstand the next storm because he has prepared it.

God doesn’t always give us what we want, but He’ll always give us what we need. For as long as Jesus walked this earth He only gave us one commandment, (John 13:34 NIV) "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.

(John 13:35 NIV) By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

We are on this Earth to serve and Not be served. And while we’re here we will go through storms, in our lives. They are there to help us grow into the servants God wants us to be.

I seriously enjoyed that. An important message, and well-written to boot. It wasn't long or preachy, and it got right to the point -- a rather good point.
I write to you, full of holes and my storms have been many. It's because of those storms that I'm able to with stand what ever comes next.
