I have seen many stories of ex-Catholic 'haters' eventually becoming a Catholic.

Being a Catholic i can see that these people who dislike 'our' faith are very much misguided and misinformed. If only they would open their eyes and see the beauty of the CC!!

Hello,

I hope you don't mind a non-Christian responding.

I actually like the Roman Catholic Church. It's 2000+ year history is incredible. Of course, given that long history there are a couple of bad guys. Sadly I think that is what so many focus on. I know the Catholic Church's initial response to the Protestant Reformation was, by modern concepts, harsh.

However, I've read Pope Benedict XVI's books entitled Jesus of Nazareth and they are excellent. I am sure I am missing a lot in them. I've also read Saint Augustine's auto-biography Confessions. Very interesting look at a life in the early to mid 5th century AD Mediterranean world.

The preservation of so much literature and art is the result of Roman Catholics. Just look at some of the books copied and saved by the monks in Ireland in the early Middle Ages. The art in the Vatican is a treasure to Humanity

I've read some of Pope Francis statements and like him as well.

I have found myself defending the Catholic Church (yes, even as a non-Christian) and Catholics a few times. I like Catholics and the Catholic Church. I've actually spoken a few times with a local Catholic Priest. Very intelligent and nice man.

I am sorry that there are some who dislike the Catholic Church and Catholics. It is most unfortunate.

Probably because there are hundreds upon hundreds upon thousands of videos on youtube that have odd people pointing at everything and everyone under the sun and crying "Satanic!" in a blind panic that causes the herd to start stampeding in like direction. According to these, "brilliantly investigated" and "highly reasonable" "documentaries" the Catholic church is one of those institutions that "worship the devil" and the Pope of course is the "ring-leader of Satanism" in the world.

And that's probably the main reason why. People will believe anything without substantial evidence, and will engage in herd-like judgment mentality based on nothing. I would advise that youtube be completely shut down so as to protect these people from themselves, but then, how would we watch cute cat videos? It's a terrible dilemma.

Perhaps we could build a mirror large enough that we could position in front of all of the people pointing their fingers and crying "Satanic!" it might snap them out of it? But, I doubt it.

That's my hypothesis, anyway.

I wonder the same thing, but it honestly hurts me. To read some atheists/agnostics, saying false or cliché things, does not hurts me as much than to read other christians being so aggressive (without, generally having a good knowledge of Catholicism). I read really crazy things, like these stories of satanic Popes: I do feel really angry with some contents here. I even received a message of someone who wanted to show me that I had to convert immediately! Because I were not a christian (and an evolutionist, even worse!) - and that it was the duty of this person to convert me to THE truth. I was astonished, I must say. I never even answered. From someone without any knowledge of history of Christianity, who still tries to justify himself by using the crusades, I will never accept anything like that. Especially from someone who does not even know the origins/history of his own religion and who still tries to give lessons to others on their one.

Thank you. I don't say it very often, but you are truly open-minded. I wish you all the best!

I'm with you on this.
it is discouraging to put the truth out there and have it rejected blindly.
But then i remember that Christ didn't win everyone over with the truth either.
For some reason unknown to us there are some people who just don't have what it takes to stop and really listen and learn about the truth of Christ and the Church.
Nontheless there are people every day who ARE learning, and who ARE hearing the truth that is out there.

And in this Year of Grace which is VERY QUICKLY drawing towards an end, I am very greatful that we have had this unprescedented opportunity in our era to reach so many people before it is too late. :prayer:

If they only knew how incredibly precious is the fullness of what they are missing!

If they did, they would drop everything and run quickly to the shelter of a nearby parish, and listen hungrily to the Word of God.

To be able to sit or kneel in His Presence and realize the unbelievable awesomeness of the free gift of the mass is almost beyond comprehension.
You just can't get that anywhere in a Protestant church.

and once they discovered that, they would never want to leave.
They would move heaven and earth just to get to mass as often as possible.

I'm catholic and I don't love all things catholic. The hardcore 100% haters are usually fundamentalist Protestants who need to hate Catholicism in order to justify their own outrageously biased views. Bit like how Trump needs to keep mentioning those emails of Clinton's. Hate can win elections so hate can win over choice of denomination!

Its called misinformation.

If you think about it the catholic church is itself a government with a head of state a secratery of state etc

There are millions of catholics loyal to this government in rome and these secular states see us and rome as a threat.

So state propergander is used to undermine catholicism and christianity in general in order to weaken the influence of the church and christianity.

Put that on a global scale where

**"all the civil government have one and the same plan to do away with all religious principles in order to make way for vice of all kinds"**

And you get a global ground swell opposed to christian principles and hatred of the catholic church

** reference to the warnings of our lady of la salette

Because when you are right ..
as the Church has always been ...when it is popular to be wrong, (which has been the case since the beginning of time) people tend not to like you. Take heart though because you are doing something right. Jesus said it would be this way

I think it's because we're right.

I heard once that one concept of Hell is being in the presence of God's love and light while rejecting and hating it.

By that same token, I think the Church has that same effect on people in this life, whether they be protestants or nonbelievers altogether.

That's just my opinion though.

I think it has to be taken into consideration that we are on an religious internet forum where those most passionate against Catholism can make a lot of noise apposed to those that like or are indifferent about Catholism don't nearly as frequently make their voices heard.

I don't think people hate Catholicism or any other "isms."

I think that people dislike people who are unable to communicate effectively, who have poor listening skills, who are rigid and judgmental of others.

There are some Catholics in that category--just as there are members of every other "ism" in that category.

Hardest, of course, is when two of these rigid judgmental types with different "isms" but* heads with one another.

You are incredibly close to a big reason for the hatred here. If the Protestants didn't hate Catholicism, their own existence (Protestant-ism) would be questioned.
