  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why are there misunderstandings in religion?

Probably the same reasons there are misunderstandings in every area of life. I offer a few possibilities, as follow:

1, Human nature. Ever since the tower of Babel there have been misunderstandings, which are primarily rooted in our own sinful nature,
2. No common basis. Every country has its own laws which serve as the common basis for their legal system. Try applying one set of laws, as in Sharia law, in another country, say Great Britain, and you wil have misunderstandings. If Christians have as their sole basis for understanding the Bible, then there would be fewer misunderstandings. As it is, most, if not all, denominations toss in their own traditions and extrabiblical materials to the Bible, resulting in many misunderstandings.
3. Linguistics. Grace, for example, may mean something entirely different to another person based on two different definitions of the word. Standard definitions are difficult to establish, much less understand.

There's also the matter of people getting overly concerned about things that don't really matter.

This is usually related to some sort of need for people to have an answer to every conceivable question...even if the religion doesn't really provide all such answers.

 Help Anybody :help:

There are 4 branches of Moslems, and several Jewish branches.
Several branches when it comes to Catholics.
27 kinds of baptist
and there so many that call them self Christian by there church name first.
Who knows why so many choose to be one religion over another, but I am sure the Devil has a plan.

I can agree with every point here.

Because all are sinners; because we find obedience hard; because we yield to the Tempter too easily; because we are a stiff-necked and rebellious people who managed to crucify the Saviour of the World when He came in peace and love to save us.

Most of all because we cannot find that love each for the other of which He spoke.

Peace,

Anglian
