  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

GfG entered a fifth installment of argumentum ad hominem in (yet) another attempt to divert attention away from a given argument. In this case, it is used to run away from the relatively benign question of why he would quote Martin Luther as an authority, when he's already on record rejecting the authority he quoted.

After all, how many Adventists do you know who are looking for guidance from Martin Luther? I don't see how you can equate this with telling GfG what his own church teaches.

Jeez louise..I just had a revelation..This thread is about legalism..
Why I didnt recognize this before must really make me look crazy...lol..I mean we Got the Catholics who believe the Pope is sinless,
I dare say one or two exist in the world, but I've never met a Catholic who believes the pope is sinless. Certainly Catholicism does not teach that; in fact teaches that that isn't true.

The pope is not sinless. Why is it that folk, such as you, cannot get off their posteriors and check your facts before you type such silly claims? It's a shame that you write such rubbish. It detracts from what is true and useful in your message.
the wafer actually is the body of Christ

Jesus said, of 'the wafer', this is my body. I'm happy to go with what he said.

Blah blah blah ... really, if the above is a 'revelation' then you need to find a different source for your revelations.

I was raised Catholic..Roman Catholic..Now mind you that was 40 years ago..But I was taught the the Vicar of Christ was sinless..That Mary was "co-redeemer" with Jesus..etc..But anyway..The post was just to lighten things up...cyas..

No. You were not taught that the pope is sinless. You just were not taught that. The pope asks for forgiveness of his sins every time he says mass. He also confesses his sins to a priest regularly and frequently.

Thank you! Amen.

I knew it, but I wanted you to say it. I don't get this notion. Its just wrong. The only people I have ever heard say it were non-Catholics. Why wouldn't someone ask a Catholic if they wanted to know what Catholics believe?

I thank you for all you have taught me about Catholicism, actually. It has helped me in my walk.

In the unlikely event you were taught that whoever taught it to you was completely wrong about a basic aspect of Catholic ecclesiology.

Under very stringent conditions certain very specific Papal announcements are deemed to be infallible. But the Pope himself is not regarded as sinless by a long chalk, and never has been.

Infallibility has absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with impeccability. Nothing. Not a thing.

LOL..I was raised Catholic..Of coarse the Pope is not sinless..But The Roman Catholic church 40 years ago told me he was.
No it did not. Some person who didn't know what they were talking about might have told you that, or you may have misunderstood what you were being taught, but the Catholic Church has never taught that.

In what way?

Francis seems like a rather good guy so far. I imagine his personal life might be a bit better than Eseven's

I also imagine that Francis' life has, so far, been much longer that Eseven's.

Maybe so. But other bishops and popes were thought to be impeccable yet their fallibility, and in some cases utter folly, was evident.

Brightcandle/Truthwave/Gladiator has already stated he takes Luther selectively. So Victor is not telling him what he believes.

However, what Victor may be driving at is why doesn't Brightcandle/Truthwave/Gladiator just spell out his view from the Bible and leave Luther out of it?
