  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why Are Gangs Not Put Away?

So people know of gangs with weird names and issues with colors (like a red scarf or yellow hanky). You got gangs they claim they "own" streets or blocks of a city and try to make people afraid with intimation and ugly tattoos (and really bad breathe from my experience). These are the gangs that are filled with crime and evil and that garbage (a reason why people need Jesus in their lives so this filth can go away). These "gang territories" are not owned by them and belong to all the people who live in the city. There could be more schools and real housing for people (but please, stop with supermarkets as there are plenty).
My question...
If police in your town know of So-so gang hides out in this street over there, why have there not been a big group of paid police people to go in, put them all away, and get those streets cleaned up for the city to properly utilize for the people? Why have they just let them gangies do what they do, know what they do is very bad?

Because they have to convict you of a crime before they put you away, and getting witnesses to testify against gangs can be tough. Also because gang-ridden neighborhoods tend to be filled with people who don't have any political clout, and so they don't get much in the way of police resources devoted to them.

...because the gangs are too big, too wide-spread, too organized, too interlaced with other organized criminals, and... are often saavy, besides just being evasive and plain ruthless. So, let's not put blame on the limited funds and personnel of the police forces. Most of the time, they're just doing what they can to address the presence of gangs and similar groups; and they can't always just go blazing in and win the day. There's just too much there for them to handle on many levels. (Which is why we probably need to keep a lot of those men and women in our prayers...)

Like you, I wish they could do more when it comes to dealing with gangs.

These issues are much more complicated than people tend to think. In the city where my dad grew up, there was 1 big gang that went around the city, but no issues with little street gangs like happens a lot. But as soon as the city police department took down the big gang, little ones popped up all over, and it's been a big, deadly game of whack-a-mole ever since.

Nine times out of ten, those gangs "control" certain areas of ghettos. I think city councils, law enforcement and other officials prefer a policy of containment. Their thinking seems to be that a certain level of lawlessness will happen no matter what so it makes sense to "quarantine" it.

That's not necessarily a profession of my own policy preferences. But I've talked to councilmen, policemen and others and they've talked around that particular policy to such a degree that I think they're all quietly implementing what they think is a more sensible policy than "Go in, guns blazing".

Same thing happened with the Mexican cartels.

Because drugs are the last form of liquid $$ no records, no taxes . Bankers make huge profits laundering the $$ they give lots campaign $$ to the politicians .The politicians tell law enforcement what to do .the gangs are just the lowest level of the chain . To end the drug problem and the gangs overnight the death penalty to drug dealers who are killing people just the same in the long run .The penalty outweighs the reward that they now have .

Exactly. There's that pesky little clause in Sec. 1 of the 14th Amendment:

"nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law..."

It makes life difficult for self-righteous, despotic, authoritarians.

All that is needed is new laws to deal with gangs. Amending R.I.C.O. is a good place to start. If street gangs aren't organized to sell drugs and other crimes (racketeering) I don't know what is.

Yes-- I'm sure tougher laws and more police is the answer! It has worked so well in the past after all.

My plan would work, and require fewer police (and fewer jailers as I would expand and expedite the death penalty).

Many in law enforcement agree that change is needed.....but not in their department.
