  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It is flaming to call the Trinity a product. Edit that please.

I'll change it to result. :)

To read:

... The Trinity was not officially taught in the Christian church until 300 years after the Resurrection of The Savior. The idea of the 3 in 1 Trinity was the result of the ... :)

Hi TBL. Sure, I understand God had a role in organizing the sacrifices. I'm talking more about the attitude of the people toward the sacrifice.

The words don't change, but the hearts of people change. Again, I feel this is why Jesus said, "this people draws near to me with their lips, but their heart is far from me". The tenants of faith are already written. That's why we have a Bible. Surely unity can be there without a selected list of verses from the Bible? And what about the parts which don't make it onto the list? I don't think I've ever seen a creed which includes something like, "We believe in working against greed and materialism, helping orphans/widows, and praying, fasting, and giving charity in secret", but those are fairly important practical teachings from Jesus.

The Nicene Creed is based on the Bible and it was necessary to combat the wolves who were infiltrating the church.

Gnostics denied the Incarnation, claiming that Christ only appeared to be a man, but that his humanity was an illusion.

Sabellius targht modalism.

Arius taught that Christ was a creation of God.

Pelagius thought thst man is born morally neutral and can achieve heaven under his own powers. According to him, God’s grace is merely helpful.

Wolves entered the flock and spared none long before the creeds. If it was not for a pagan who worshiped the Sun there would have been hundreds of thousands different religions all professing that they were the original church of Christ. So the Roman emperor did subdue the types of followers in that if you were not Catholic you were dead or banished. It was a great motivator. Ask arius

Constantine ultimately sided with Arius and the Arians. It was Constantine who banished, not Arius, but Athanasius. Athanasius was exiled to Gaul for several years, and following his return after Constantine's death, Constantine's son had Athanasius exiled once again immediately.

Athanasius, in fact, was exiled five times during his life. Hence it has been said through history, Athanasius contra mundum, Athanasius against the world.

That isn't true. There were more than Catholics on earth.

Some comments that explain part of the Mormon objections to Christianity:

I would like to mention one other thing that I think is a creed that is “an abomination in the sight of God,” and I shall mention it but briefly. At the time that Joseph Smith had that marvelous vision and saw that glorified Christ, he saw the same Jesus that came out of the tomb. He was the same one who appeared unto his apostles and had them feel the prints in his hands and the wound in his side. He was the same one who ascended into heaven in the presence of five hundred of the brethren at that time. This same Jesus appeared to the Prophet Joseph Smith when the whole Christian world was worshiping an essence.

There is not time to go into a lot of detail, but their catechism says that their god has “no body; he has no parts; he has no passions.” That means that he has no eyes; he cannot see. He has no ears; he cannot hear your prayers. He has no voice; he cannot speak a word to .the prophets. Some of them even say “he sits on the top of a topless throne.” How absurd! To me it seems that their description of the god that they believe in is about the best description of nothing that can be written.
