  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The two who killed the most were atheists, and actively persecuted Christians and other deists. I'm sorry they didn't spell that out in the picture for people like you.

Maybe it's because KCfromNC has been too busy murdering millions of people to give your meme enough thought. It's all murder and no play for us non-believers.

The point being made was that the link between them being Atheists is as mistaken as the idea that they're wearing shirts with collars means they'll kill millions, but that wearing a white shirt with a black tie makes you less efficient at it.

Atheist leaders of countries have been known to kill people. Lots of people. Notice who the light weight is in this group.

Three people. In the entire history of humanity.... Three people. I'm willing to bet that if you tally up all the people killed by believers in God, the number would greatly exceed, Hitler, Stalin and Mao combined. I can guarantee it.

But would that be fair to you?

I am actually sincerely sorry that you were offended by my comments, you have been respectful and kind.

Apology accepted. Thank you.

I was actually hoping to raise the ire of those who continue to offend me by comparing my morality to Hitler and Stalin (two of the most repugnant humans of the 20th century) This can only occur so many times before I lose my temper and patience.

I can understand that and I'm truly sorry for the way you and other atheists have been treated in this thread.

However, I can assure you I have absolutely ZERO hatred for the Christian God nor do I have any hatred for those who believe in him. I have no hatred for anyone. I can call the Greek Gods immoral, jealous, vicious, and flawed (which they most certainly were), and can do so without an ounce of hatred for them. I will repeat that--I have no hatred for anyone, but I do in fact find most of the OT and some of the NT to be vile. I don't care how much theologians spin the actions of the Christian God, his actions towards the Canaanites were genocidal, infanticidal, unnecessary, and cruel. As far as jealousy goes-it is apparently such an enormous part of his nature he needs to repeatedly declare it. I have a very hard time discussing morality or the human condition with anyone who defends the attempted genocide of the Canaanites. The Divine Command Theory view that an action is moral if done by God is a terrible moral philosophy.

Thank you for further explaining your point of view. I appreciate your willingness to do so.

Some of the blame the atheists posts in this thread reminds of the people who imply that discrimination against blacks, Jews, etc... must be their fault somehow. They cause it. It's impossible that people could be motivated by irrational bigotry, racial or religious stereotyping, and fear. The one on the receiving end of the hate and disdain must be to blame.

Thank you for being the voice of reason on this thread. I have a feeling you are not going to like my last post either, but perhaps you can educate some of the other people on this thread on how to be Christ-like and not simple Christians by name. I am done with this thread.

The way atheists are being treated and who they are being compared to breaks my heart and it sickens me. And I am truly sorry. I say this with the sincerest motive and I mean no offense, but I am praying for you. I'm praying for all unbelievers on this site too. I'm also praying for those who profess Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, yet deny Him with their words and actions, especially with their un-Christlike attitude and behavior toward unbelievers.

Which one am I AL? Which one do I worship?

Before advocating guilt by association, perhaps you should check your own history and make sure you are happy to be associated with anyone who has declared themselves a Christian.

John 2:15 - And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers' money, and overthrew the tables;

A nice guy or moral teacher doesn't go on an armed rampage through a temple, even if the people are doing wrong. If Jesus was as great as he is said to be, he could have shown people why what they were doing was wrong without violence.

I am no Bible scholar, but from my understanding a "scourge" in the Roman sense was a whip with special barbed hooks on it that were designed to tear off flesh. Some translations also refer to this "scourge" as a "whip", which would be in line with the description of being made out of "small cords" or "twigs". Such a 'weapon' would be nothing compared to the actual scourge that was used as a torture and execution device upon Jesus' body before he was hung up on a cross.

A "nice" guy and a moral teacher most definitely does go to the defense of the innocent and drive out wickedness from a place where it is doing the gravest of harm to the most vulnerable of society. Jesus rightfully owned the Temple and in my opinion his action was no vast degree greater than the actions of a parent exacting discipline. Even our modern day police force arms themselves with a degree of weaponry when they go to break up riots and illegal behavior.

Jesus was as great as He is made about to be. He was later tortured and beaten and killed by some of the very same people he had compassionately expelled from the temple and then laid down his life not just for them, but even for the people who he went to the temple to defend. Jesus tried all kinds of non-"violent" methods of clearing up His temple and I think turning over some tables is quite mild a reaction to the level of abuse that was going on there.

I think you too quickly ignore that the abuse in the temple was equal or worse to say, apartheid Africa. People were probably dying because of what was going on in the temple. There were some people forced to live lives of judgement and isolation because they could not afford, or meet the criteria to enter parts of the temple that were closed off to them. People were denied healing. It was a sick state of affairs and some measure of action needed to be taken.

If that's all the dirt you have on Jesus, then you're making a very hasty decision in dismissing His goodness. I find it quite depressing really, that you think our God can't hand out merited justice, yet you so readily ignore that the same God died for us and held back his justice when He could have so easily shown His wrath.

Update:
This thread is remaining closed. As I went to clean the thread I noticed there were too many flaming posts. I went ahead and removed some of the posts but to remove any more would have corrupted the thread.

Please remember to be respectful to one another. It is not okay to flame atheists nor Christians. Please keep in mind the board rules when posting. Thank you and may you have a wonderful day.
