Why am I more lonely now than ever before?

I have more family around me and a wife but I feel alone much of the time. Its like people take me for granted for what I can do for them but they don't care to be interested in me as a person. Everything seems so superficial. The sad thing is I feel like I could walk away and start over. I could meet someone and have meaningful conversations with them and over time I would end up right back here where I am, so why bother. What is the point?

Of course no one can comment on your specific family but usually this,"they don't care to be interested in me as a person" is due to a mutual lack of interpersonal involvement. In short, the Christian foundational teaching to "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" works almost magically because humans function very much as mirrors;we receive back what people see in us.

OH NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY THE UNITED STATES KEEPS GETTING INTO WARS! WE PROJECT HOSTILITY, ARROGANCE AND DOMINATION .

I ask them about their lives, schooling, how their day was etc... They don't reciprocate.

OH NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY THE UNITED STATES KEEPS GETTING INTO WARS! WE PROJECT HOSTILITY, ARROGANCE AND DOMINATION .

The US also projects foreign aid in the form of cash and food like crazy. I don't see any of that headed back our way.

Don't take this personally but I think your compass is off on this one. I understand the idea of 'what you put out comes back' is popular group think these days but pragmatically speaking its nonsense.

I totally understand too... about people treating you like that.. the world is like that.. not just in our houses.. I get this in my church..ohhh do I feel like running away..

So many are busy doing what??? We have become selfish people.. I think the only way to help ourselves is to look out for the needs of others.. two lonely people together are no longer lonely..

That is why I come to the forums so often.. but it is even here too..

People get busy and you can be neglected so easily.. I hear you.. I don't think people mean to do it.. they just don't realize..

Don't give up.. just find an avenue where your gifts to this world are received gladly in the right way I mean and just love on those around you as much as you can.. even if it is not reciprocated keep on keeping on.. because the more we give out.. the less reason we have to give up because we are not so consumed with our own aches but rather helping someone else in their needs..

There is a bible verse that says.. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed.

Yea I agree ...it doesn't work that way, its another cliche to live by though.

I guess I could add that we should be able to just deal with the fact that it doesnt work that way. But so much Christian dogma is steeped in it. So much fails to realize that the others are also sentient beings.

The comment about the US is also a cliche....assuages guilt that was/is manufactured by carping ner'do wells

THe statement about the US, was that part of his signature or a statement within his post? What a bunch of horse hockey garbage nonsense. That really ticks me off more than anything else. The United States is more benevolent than any other country in the world, sometimes to our own detriment. We pour billions of dollars into other countries and all we do is get slapped in the face for it. We also have always produced many goods for us as well as for the rest of the world, so our contribution is endless. In addition, our country was the only country ever founded in the history of the world specifically so that people could have the freedom to worship God, and we are indeed a God-blessed nation. If anyone thinks America is so horrible, I urge you to please go live elsewhere.

...I thought it was 'do unto others' because it was GOOD, not because you get good KARMA. Am I in the wrong religion or something?

No, you are correct

The issue isnt that

Its the claim that what goes around comes around

It doesnt

the urge to set ones self apart by running down something they are a part of seems to be an American affliction.

You see it in gender things here as men challenge everything good about men, you see it in liberal politics as Americans bash America

Funny thing is, in most things they dwell in relativism....this is better than that...etc.....but in this comparison they will find lacking a list of places that these things that are good can be said about to the degree they can here....the empire that didnt expand, and paid for damage it doles out in war.
