Well, if you're an impoverished little drummer boy with no gold or frankincense or myrrh to lay before the King, you might play your drum for Him. You could play your best for Him and see the loving smile of appreciation.

Another way to show reverence would be...

Matthew 25:40 is a good insight into how we can honour The King.
Why would God want this?

I wonder if Jesus worshiped God? The eventual Christology has Jesus as part of the Trinity, so if Jesus offered a sacrifice at the Temple and if sacrifice is a form of worship then Jesus was worshiping Himself. Maybe this can be explained in the same way that Jesus explained to John the Baptist why He should receive the baptism from John for repentance.

Why would God appreciate our love and reverence? Boy, that's a tough question.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and take a wild guess that maybe it's because it feels nice to be loved, honoured, respected.
Reverence is beyond what the average human expects. I imagine your god is self-centered.

LOL
Self-centred?

Arent atheists the ones acting like there's no Higher being?
Abso-frikin-lutely. I'm not higher than you; you're not higher than me. Doesn't fit any definition of self-centered to me.

Arent (hedonistic) atheists the ones who live like there's no tomorrow?
No.
