  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm curious where everyone is at with their food budgets.

I've seen some pretty crazy images of beef and coffee and such. Not as interested in eggs.

Grocery prices are jumping up. We explain why.

Not necessarily as interested in the "big picture" stuff and more about people's awareness of how expensive things are "on the ground".

I think the grocery prices here are about the same as they have been all year. It might depend on what one buys. I don't buy beef or coffee, two of the items mentioned in the article. I'm lucky enough to have farms and farm markets near me, and local food won't be as affected by tariffs as international items. I've noticed restaurant prices climbing, but I think that's been going on for a couple of years, so not attributable to one president vs another.

I don't buy meat or dairy. Coffee prices have gone up by about 1/3 due to tariffs, so I have been drinking more tea. Everything else seems to be about the same.

$40 for the house brand at Costco for Keurig pods, (120). Last week, $36 (up from $30/2024).

The CPI does seperate out the food items. Here is Ai's answer to my question: In 2025 how much has the food component of the US CPI gone up?
"In the 12 months ending in July 2025, the food component of the U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 2.9%, with food-at-home prices rising 2.2% and food-away-from-home prices increasing 3.9%. For the 12 months ending in August 2025, the overall food index rose 3.2%."
Guess they could not parse the data to just 2025. I next asked it for the latest month being reported. At home food is up .6% and food out .5% Those are pretty big numbers for an annual rate. 7.2 % At 7.2 % annually food prices would double in about 10 years. The tariffs are starting to pinch. Meanwhile many US farmers are going broke. Wheat prices down 17% this year alone.

Of course, Revelations 6:6 says a days wages for about enough wheat to make a 1.5 loaves of bread.

My food budget currently stands at $2.47 a day, a decrease of approximately $0.20 per day over the past year.

Our grocery bill has come down ever so slightly in the past few months. Coffee is through the roof, but everything else seems a little cheaper than it was a year ago, or about the same.

Western NY - meat and coffee are way more expensive, but eggs are down from the beginning of the year. Dairy is up a bit. I usually don't do the grocery shopping, but when I do, that's what I noticed.

I must say that I am surprised people are seeing any kind of decrease since it goes against national numbers and so many other people's experiences.

If some numbers are going DOWN, that is just a sign at how truly awful those increases must be in other places.

Seems like the top 10 cities that have the highest grocery prices are blue cities.

To keep my grocery spending the same, I have had to buy less and purchase at cheaper places with lower quality/quantity. Coffee is the biggest hit right now, so I'm going to have to switch to a different type to keep drinking the same amount.
