  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My sis in laws friend has a daughter and she just turned 1 in Sept, but she's been drinking whole milk since 8 months old. She's doing great on it and had acid reflux badly while on formula. I'd say give it to him which ever way he prefers (hot or cold).

Whole milk until they are two...and in my opinion, whole milk ALWAYS.

The fat in the whole milk actually has things in it that help the body digest milk. And it's GOOD for babies to get good healthy fats--good for brain development!

Don't warm it in the microwave--it changes an amino acid (in the protein) into a toxin. Just put the cup/bottle into a pan of hot water--it'll take the chill off the milk in a minute or two.

The Always Opinionated,
Molly by Golly ^_^

don't give it to him straight! or he'll get constipated!!!

Our pediatrition had us make the switch by mixing milk with his regular formula. In these amounts ( for each 8 oz bottle).

1st week: 2 oz milk, 6 oz formula
2nd week: 4 oz milk, 4 oz formula
3rd week: 6 oz milk, 2 oz formula

then straight milk after the third week. :) no upset bellies.

I had my daughter on formula until she turned a year, then switched over to whole milk, didn't mix it w/formula & she did fine with it, but all babies are different! By her first birthday, she was down to only 1 bottle (at night), other times she drank out of a straw cup...and about a month after her first birthday, she was off bottles all together! But I did whole milk until her second birthday, then got the ok from her ped. to switch to 2%, & that's what she drinks now & looooves it!

Hey, if that's working for you, sounds great! At least you're getting him used to the taste of milk! And when you bring him in for his 1 yr appt w/his ped., you can ask the Dr. what he/she thinks about it...when in doubt, ask them! But sounds to me like everything is fine!!

I switch early for both kids, I think around 11 months. The ped. told me that since they were eating a balanced diet and getting all the nutrients they need from food, they no longer had to have formula. I gradually introduced them to milk by starting off with one sippy cup a day. At12 months, they were fully on whole milk.
