  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My New Century Version Bible has these short summaries at the beginning of each book which gives outlines, themes and even the date of which it was written.
So my question is who wrote Genesis and when?
My Bible says that it was written around 1446-1406 B.C.
Now thats odd because when I flip to Exodus it says that it was written in 1445-1440 B.C.
Thats only one year apart from Genesis.
I have to say I am confused.
Also is there another forum that is meant for these sort of questions?

Moses is the author of Genesis, as well as the other five opening books of the OT (also known as the Torah). This is confirmed by a number of passages in both the OT and the NT.

The Torah was most likely written while Israel wandered in the desert for 40 years between the time they left Egypt and the time they finally entered the Promised Land, somewhere between 1500 and 1400 BC.
