Pantaenus; Clement of Alexandria; Origen; Athanasius; Didymus the Blind; Macarius of Egypt; Gregory Thaumaturgus; Ambrose; Ephraim; John Chrysostum; Gregory of Nyssa; Gregory of Nazianzus; Jerome of Bethlehem; Evagrius Ponticus; Titus of Bastra; Asterius of Amasea; Cyril; Methodius of Tyre; Pamphilius Eusibius; Hillary of Poitiers; Victorinus; Macrina the Younger; Dionysius the Areopagite; John Cassian; Maximus the Confessor; Proclus of Constantinople; Peter Chrysologus; Diodorus of Tarsus; Stephen bar Sudaili.

These early Church fathers taught that God would reconcile all mankind to himself, not just a select few that believed the right thing, prayed the right prayer and did the right things. But their voices were eventually silenced when a half-pagan emperor, Justinian declared Universal Reconciliation a heresy in the sixth century. At the expense of millions of lives during the crusades and the butchery of the Roman Church, Christendom has never been the same since. There are some today who hold to the truth that all of creation will be reconciled to God: Gary Amirault, Thomas Talbot, Rob Bell are just few.

Johannes Gutenberg has to be in the top ten list if not the first on the list!

Gutenberg made it possible for millions to learn about Christ and in addition, those people that have been listed on this thread as being the greatest were presented to millions through Gutenberg’s printing press

Isac Newton.

Revolutionised our understanding of the world, creating physics. Invented money as in paper money as we know it today, which was largely the cause of the industrial revolution.

Isaac Newton was not an orthodox Christian. There is a sense in which his religious opinions were informed by a Christian outlook, but it needs to be noted that he was, for all intents and purposes, a unitarian and a deist.

The question is "Who was the greatest figure in Christian history after 100 AD?" To properly answer the question, only one person can be selected...

Leonardo da Vinci was not only the greatest figure in Christian history after 100 AD, he was perhaps the greatest mind that ever lived besides Y'shua bar Yosef. (Einstein may round out that threesome.)

I would say St Augustine as his theology affected both Catholicism and Protestantism. Also St Thomas Aquinas. And (gasp) Martin Luther and John Calvin. Lesser lights but still significant would be St Francis, John Wesley, Bunyan, and scores of others.

No way..... he was a pagan sun god worshipper till the day he died...

*pained*

No, that is blatantly ahistorical.

All he did was start the Roman Catholic church:)

No, he didn't. :doh:The Roman Catholic Church came about in 1054. This is high school level world history here.

I would like to point out that the thread is "the greatest", not the "wisest" or "closest to Christ", necessarily. So I'm reading that as who was the most effective in propagating the true faith and preaching etc.

I would go with St. Constantine, St. John Chrysostom, St. Augustine, Pope St. Gregory the Great...

Who do you feel was the greatest figure in Christian History after 100 A.D.??..............

Jesus or the Holy Spirit.

I'm calling it a tie.

Otherwise, saying: The GREATEST PERSON and applying that to just a human being - in Christian history - is either insult or oxymoron.
