Who Wants to be a Mod?

I cannot endorse horrible personal flames. Calling people ignorant and mentally insane? Not ignorant against a particular subject either....just ignorant.

Come on, I won't pretend for a second that is something we should have on here, and I know the mods won't either. And this is EXACTLY why we need mods.

This thread is about mods. If you have a personal conflict on the forum, you should start a thread about it and we can discuss it.

I was publicly flamed and attack and I am yet to see a public retraction. I don't care to question anyone's motives but I have my reasons to be skeptical.

I apologized to you once, but I never personally attacked you.

And see, this is part of the problem....we're only looking at personal flames against OURSELVES and I think every one of us should be offended when we see flames against ANYBODY.

If you sit back and watch one of your friends (or even a family member) resort to personal flaming SAY SOMETHING for pete's sake. Otherwise, you're endorsing it and that's just as bad as DOING it.

That is why it must be stopped at the first blow. There was no justification for attacking me but it was done. I have not read the post by Ice that has caught your attention but in his case there is a history of antagonism that has been encouraged "in the name of God."

NOBODY has the right to make personal flames or call someone crazy. If a person cannot handle themselves in a debate situation, and they have to resort to personal attacks, the "stricter rules against personal flames" should handle that.

Right now people are taking advantage of the lack of mods, but I think they're in a for a rude awakening honestly.

I don't understand the lack of constraint right now, without any mods, but I guess some people want to get it out of their systems before those rules kick in.

Wow. I haven't seen this post that you've read either (don't have much time here this morning) so I cannot comment on it really, but I already had reasoning for not seconding Ice. It's sad, but it has to do with stuff I recently spoke to him about in private and I think he understands.

I think there's no problem in changing a second or even nomination. If they were set in stone just because someone chose to say it earlier in this thread (not even an official election thread, too), then that would hardly be fair. If someone puts a sign up for a possible President on their lawn, and then the same person they were campaigning for changes their view and the person no longer agrees with them on this subject..Have they not the right to switch campaigns before the vote?

My mom and I have spoken about the negativity a lot lately, because everyone seems over-stressed and frustrated. Anger and emotions seem to be coming out of people more than they should be, and in my personal opinion it's just a sign of the end times. Satan is going to try extra hard to swing as many votes as he can the closer we get to the actual results date, no? Getting people on gaurd for whatever reason is a very effective way of doing it. (And no, I'm not calling anyone followers of Satan or anything incase this gets misunderstood. Simply saying that he is frustrating us all).

I had a couple questions about being moderator here while I'm deciding:

1) What about Sabbaths? I normally try to avoid being here as much as possible on those days, and if I was moderator that would fit into work. I understand that mods are needed 24/7 and that it's volenteering, though..so I'm curious about how the Sabbath rest day is handled in that situation.

2) If someone is a traditional and a mod, are they allowed to go into the Progressive subforum and mod there, or do we need a progressive to do that? I'm completely impartial to either side but I could understand if it made people uncomfortable.

3) Also, since a move is possible in my near future which would limit amounts of time here..That would be okay, right? Nothing is certain yet so I feel edgy about making a desicion for or against accepting due to this possibility at this time. I'd hate to decline then find out I had the time.

Sarah, I think the current expectation of moderators for this site is four hours a week.

Obviously when we implement the new rules, it might require a little more time than that, but after a couple of weeks, I'd say 4 hours would probably be a little excessive (I can't really say though, and if the site requires it then I don't think our mods will get special treatment).

And yes, Progressive mods have had to step into the Traditional section before to post a "mod hat" statement or help us, so there is no boundary. Flaming is flaming, no matter what forum it's in.

I'd say if you see you're definitely not going to be able to devote 4 hours a week to this forum then you should let everyone know in advance, and if it's temporary I don't see any problem at all!

lol... perhaps that is part of the problem.... on the forum I moderate I suspect I am there more than 4 hours a week... that's less than an hour a day and lots of stuff can (and usually does) spin out of control when someone isn't minding the store.... not sure what can be done, but with a forum like this, you will either need a lot of moderators, or a few moderators who are willing to donate more time here....

Oh wow. 4 hours. That's way less than I was expecting! I was thinking at least an hour or two a day! I don't see how 4 hours wouldn't work out, even if I was moving, working, and studying.

I'm glad I asked that, because there's a huge reason I was leaning towards the negative side.

Makes sense about the progressive/traditional sub-forums, too. I can deal with that no problem.

I'd really appreciate any links to official moderation rules or whatever you guys may know of. I'd look around myself but I must go eat (no breakfast yet. Oops.). I'll be back later.

And keep in mind that there will be (hopefully) several mods, so the responsibility won't fall on just one person's shoulders.

I can understand that. Just for the record, I know the 4 hours is a minimum and as long as there's no move in progress I'm sure I could fit in more time than that.

The problem with this forum is that there is the desire to moderate it with rules. But to do that you have to write more rules and the more rules you have the greater the chance that someone will violate a written rule and the more work the mods will have to do. It is much easier to moderate mature individuals.

There used to be a "apply to be a mod" button on every page, and now I don't see it.

Or maybe I'm imagining that!

It had all the expectations in there, so I'm sure Tall or Sophia will be able to point you to where it is now.

also true.... I suspect already there are too many rules for the moderators to remember, add to that the possibility that infractions may or may not be handled in the same way.... it is a recipe for chaos...

The biggest problem on this forum is personal attacks. Those aren't too hard to spot, so a huge list of rules shouldn't be a problem.

Plus if a forum is labelled "no debate" then that's a pretty easy violation to spot too.
