I know this is probably a foolish thought however I was thinking about Adam and Eve taking of the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. We all know that Eve was deceived by Satan via the serpent. She ate of the tree and in turn gave of the fruit to Adam.

Now we also know that Adam blamed Eve and Eve in turn blamed the serpent. Of course the serpent had no one to blame.

Now here is my question and thought. Most Christians believe that Satan used the serpent to deceive and seduce Eve into eating of the tree. The serpent was created by God. Satan was created by God.

Did Satan really appear as a serpent or did he enter into the serpent and spoke through it? Such as did Satan possess the serpent to get to Eve, who according to Paul is the weaker vessel?

If Satan entered the serpent which was a created being, why did the serpent have to suffer and be cursed? Why did not God go after Satan? Well I guess He did when He spoke to him that his heel would be bruised by His Son.

I guess what I am trying to ask is why did the serpent have to suffer and be cursed when Satan was the one who had possessed it and used it to deceive Eve?

Hi Moriah Ruth 777.

This is a piece of the puzzle, imo. According to 2 Corinthians 11:3 “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ."

She could have rejected the idea that was given by the serpent. She even started with what G_d said but didn't stay with it (Gen 3).

Also, read an article (don't remember the author's name) that presented that Eve committed all 3 types of sin; namely, the lust of the eye, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life (I John 2:16). Gen 3:6 "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat." Whether she got the information first hand from Yahweh or not, she knew what was right (Gen 3:2-3). She went beyond that first thought that the serpent gave her and embellished it. We're to take every thought captive (II Cor 10:5) and renew our minds with His Word (Rom 12:2).

I think any wonder or argument about whether the serpent was possessed by Satan or was Satan himself is kind of missing the point...

Some believe the serpent/satan was a reptilian fallen angel. That some fallen angels are of reptilian form. Not that satan possessed a serpent to beguile Eve. But that as a fallen angel he was entering into Eve to have children. per Gen 6 and Enoch

Correction: few believe such things, and incorrectly so. "Reptilian people" is just conspiracy theorist balderdash.

Hi Erez, yes Satan is referred to as a serpent. Serpents and snakes are reptile or amphibians. And yes I have heard of Satan and his demons having a reptilian nature. They also can come in the form of a human. Also the bible tells us that Satan and his demons do come as an Angel of Light to deceive many.

"And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light". 2 Corinthians 11:14

Tturt,

2 Corinthians 11:3 “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ."

Ahh yes, the MIND. Satan likes to speak lies into our minds and thoughts. This is true of Eve. Satan spoke to her thoughts and it entered into her mind. And than instead of turning from that lie or that deception, she chose to go with it.

Did she know if it was God speaking to her or if it was Satan? Would she have known that Satan at that time had existed?

She knew the voice of God while walking in the garden with Adam. One would think that she would have recognized that this voice did not come from God. Also to even think that this being who spoke to her would even question her about what God had told her and Adam about the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. Not to eat from it. Would Eve not even have taken notice that this being who spoke to her would question her or question what God told her?

Because it sounds like Satan had blocked her mind or blinded her eyes to see that what was speaking to her was maybe from God.

One would think that Eve would have rejected the idea from Satan that, if she ate from the tree that she would not die but become like God or become gods. And also that she only stated part of what God told her not to do. She left out the fact that if she ate of the tree then they would die spiritually.

Another interesting part is the fact that Eve saw that the tree was good to eat from. Did Satan open her eyes to see what he wanted her to see?

"So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate." Genesis 3:6

I believe that Satan opened her eyes to his lie of how beautiful that tree looked. And yet he had blinded her eyes to see what the tree actually would like in the spiritual realm. So he made the tree look pleasant to eat in order to deceive and lie to her.

However when Adam and Eve ate of the tree their eyes were truly open to see what they had done. Did they see more than what Genesis tells us? What exactly did they see? It must have been something enough to put fear in them. To make them feel like they were naked, in order to hide themselves with fig leaves and hide from God. I think that they saw what the tree entailed, however it was only for a brief moment.

Now these are just my thoughts.

On your last thought paragraph Tturt, yes I would say that there was the lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh and the pride of life. I can see this.

Orthodox,

Yes Satan was exactly that. A conjurer, where he conjured in Eve's mind that the tree was pleasant to eat from and to make one wise, etc. A whisperer, where he whispered into her mind that she could be come like God or become gods.

And this is what Satan does, he whispers into our thoughts, which becomes a lie and he conjures images in our minds which make it all good and right.

He did when He spoke to him that his heel would be bruised by His Son.

The serpent would bruise the Son's heel (that aspect of Him closest to the earth) the Son would bruise the serpent's head (the serpents place of authority)...the fruit of the tree (a certain line of reasoning which leads one to assume they can be as god, thus lord of their own life, disregarding the word of God and doing what is right in their own eyes) is death...at the cross and by the resurrection from the dead, the serpents head is now bruised.

The language is figurative as O-USA has pointed out...the serpent was not a literal talking snake and neither was the fruit an apple or pear or some other piece of literal fruit...it is doubting God, questioning His motives, and deciding good and evil for one's self (being your own god - Genesis 3:5)...

Self lordship (the way that seems right to a man) is the way of death....

It's interesting to me that when they sinned, there were consequences and their spiritual position changed, yet they were still Yahweh's children.

As believers today, when we sin, it doesn't mean that we're not saved but it's comparable to having the whole armour of God or not " Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." (Eph 6).

Or "Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.” I Peter 3:7

Or " But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup." (I Cor 11:28)

Or After a list of what's included in lust of the flesh, "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." (ga. 5)

Or The Lord's Prayer
"...deliver us from evil..." Matt 6
"And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors." The importance of forgiving

Moriah Ruth, thanks for your response. Not knocking Yeshua's sacrifice and resurrection - in fact just the opposite. Sorry if it came across that way.

The "no repentance" emphasis now just doesn't make sense. Why would any believer hesitate to repent before Yahweh?

Not including the issue of once saved, always saved, guess a better question is How does sin impact believers?
