I was merely attempting to add some scripture for my brother's other view point to this thread.

Personally, I agree basically with what River Pastor said in the first page. His original covenant was with Israel, and they were his people, but the new covenant was with the entire world - because his 'new' people were Christians/Godly people everywhere.

That's my layman's interp. anyway.

What are the implications either way?

Are we under the New Covenant by choice?

Is there an entirely different question we should be asking instead?

The New Cov is cut between God and Man, yes Man with a capital M.
Jesus represents us as Man, but he is also God. So we can't lose in this covenant!

I believe Covenant was between God and Himself as completed in the Tempooral Realm by Christ Jesus. This is the core of all my teaching.

God made a law that no man could fulfill.
God came in the flesh to fulfill His Own Law.
He offered Himself as a sacricife to Himself and accepted the offering.
He shed His Own Blood to enact the Covenant with Himself. Offered and the accepted the Blood Himself.
He places believers in Him by Himself.

The major implication in that He cut Covenant with Himself is that there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING that we can add to it to procure our salvation. We must trust Him alone for Salvation and Redemption. There truly is no other Way!

And as for our lives as His disciples. Paul said, As you have received Christ, so walk ye in Him.

How did we receive Him? By faith through Grace.
How do we continue to live in obedience to Him? By faith through Grace.

Someday, I'll get my song up here that I wrote called, "Covenant Man"...

Now here's someone established in grace!

We see a similar covenant that was cut during Abraham's time. He cut the pieces of the animals into half. Then the vultures came. He tried to shoo them away to prevent the meat from being eaten (MAN's self efforts to keep covenant).

God put Abraham to deep sleep. Then 2 bright lights walked past each other between the cut sacrifices. It was Jesus the Son and God the Father. So the covenant was cut between Jesus and the Father. Abraham was the "sleeping partner" who is also the beneficiary.

That's how it is with the New Covenant. Praise God! Our part is only obedience to the faith (righteous faith). ie BELIEVE in JESUS!

Just as with the Covenant that Andrew mentions above where Abraham is thrust into a deep sleep and becomes only a "spectator" and not a "participant" EXCEPT through faith, there were several covenants cut between God and man. In most nearly all of those instances, God then makes a refernce to the Everlasting Covenant.

Yes, the Covenants on earth were bound to those who entered into it with God, yet these are only shadows of the True Covenant that God was preparing to cut with Himself in the Temporal Realm.

Throughout the Abrahamic, Noahic, Mosaic and Davidic covenants, there was always the underlying theme of the Everlasting Covenant (and Messianic Covenant).

One of the most noticeable is the Noahic Covenant. God tells Noah that He will make a Covenant with mankind that He will not flood the earth again. He sets the rainbow in the clouds as a token of this covenant. THEN GOD SAYS, When I look upon the bow in the clouds I will remember my EVERLASTING COVENANT.

And notice that He is remembering something that has not yet happened in the Temporal, Natural Realm...
