We need to stop seeing taxes as evil. Now I agree there is waste and abuse of our spending. I work in a federal facility and see good projects that get started and then cut while bad projects go forward. As a project manager, this does happen just as a matter of business. However, we have a lot of general waste across the board for just pet projects that don't make any business sense except to say "well I spent all my budgeted money so I can get funding for next year". That's one thing that drives me and co-workers nuts.

The obvious remedy would be to have legislators who do NOT keep saying that our national debt (by far the largest in the world) doesn't mean anything.

And if we instead were to go along with the socialists in Congress, it would balloon to around 100 TRILLION if all the programs they want were financed, not just 30 or 35!

Measured against GDP (The normal process when looking at debt) we are 8th.
