Good question. I'm not sure that any one is on the left, except the unsaved on judgement day.
Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

Well I know that when Catholics cross them selves before and after prayer, they say Father, Son and Holy Ghost (Spirit). Son is usually on the right side of your body when you cross so I assume they consider the Holy Spirit to be on the left.

Matthew 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:

I went back to the bible and looked at that scripture you gave. Read the entire part about "The Sheep and the Goats". Mt 25: 31-46 I have a couple of questions.

1. (Mt 25:31 "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory.....) Is this referring to the rapture?

2. (Mt: 25:46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.") I see the point of these passages. The ultimate commandment is to love God with all your heart, body and soul. The next one is to love your neighbors. By fulfilling the 2nd part of the commandment you are fulfilling the first part of the commandment without evening realizing it. This might be a lengthy question and might sound like Im rambling...bare with me :D.

What if you had a person that fulfills that commandment, is loving to his neighbor. Helps the poor, needy or distressed when needed. Believes that Jesus came, died on the cross...but has not accepted the fact he rose after 3 days. Did not accept that Jesus' purpose here was to save sinners from eternal death. When that person is standing in front of God and God sees all the good loving things he has done, unknowingly loved God as commanded...why wouldn't God what someone like that in His kingdom? What harm would there be in allowing a seemingly good person in the kingdom? Is it a matter of the free will thing?

I only asked that last question cause I am concerned about the ones that I love that are not saved. All outside appearances they are good loving people. But they just have this one hang up and its that Jesus came to give us eternal life.

Thank you for listening to my ramblings, sometimes its just good to get my thoughts written out instead of keeping them locked inside.

God Bless!

I am sorry to say, if you don't accept Jesus Christ as Savior, you will go to hell, no matter how good you are. Jesus said in John " I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." When God says "No man" He means it. But He also says in John "that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." That's anybody, whether they are really, really good or really, really bad. Look at the thief on the cross, he had no time to make himself really really good, he just believed and Jesus told him in Luke 24:43 "Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise." For some people this is a hard thing to accept. Either they were really bad and cannot accept the loving forgiveness the Father has to offer through Jesus Christ His Son, or they think they are good enough and will gain entry into Heaven on their merits. But, how much money can you give when God owns it all? Or, how good can you be when Jesus says in Mark 10:18 "Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God."? You can never be good enough, God new this and sent His Son.
I hope I was helpful. :)

Yes, you have been very helpful. I guess I was trying to look for a "loop hole" so to speak for my husband. It makes me just cry and ache for him knowing that he is a good man but he just has that one thing that is holding him back from eternity with God. I hope and pray that his eyes will be opened soon and accepts Jesus.

You have a great and wonderful day MeSue!

The Holy Spirit might be a good candidate but it isn't mentioned in the bible. We'll find out when we get there. And anyway, I don't think the throne and right-side means that Jesus and God are sitting all the time. It is an image of authority.

You know I think I like that answer...."image of authority". I have always found it hard to imagine a throne where God sits in it all the time. To imagine it just as an authority I can see that. God is everywhere and not in one place. Thank you again for putting it that way, so simple to understand  !

Keep praying, and have him lifted up in prayer. I know of a woman who prayed 22 years before her husband came to know Jesus. I know of another who waited 5 years for her husband to come to know Jesus as Savior. My husband was saved about a month after me, praise God!! It was my approach that prevented him from following the call of the Holy Spirit. I felt such an urgency for him to be saved I nearly beat him over the head with it. Then one day, as I left for work, I told him that my Bible was on the coffee table and if he wanted to he could read it and the tracks that I had placed strategically in Romans and Ephesians. I came home from work and he said "Honey, we need to find another church." He told me he prayed and accepted Jesus into his heart. I was sooooooo happy! Keep praying and I will pray too.

"Right hand side," may not be an description of an actual physical position, it may be a Roman term for, "next in command," or "the one who executes my commands." We have a similar expression today that comes from this concept. We say, "he's my right-hand man" to mean "this person is my helper, the one who executes my commands, the person who is the go-to guy when I am not available."

I'm sorry to hear about your husband. I will pray for both of you, that he might recieve the grace of Jesus Christ. I hope you won't be discouraged. Last year at my church, our pastor announced that he had just performed a funeral for a woman who died in her nineties. The amazing thing about this woman is that she was a lifelong non-believer who later accept Christ at the age of 87! In life, there is always time for repentance. Our very own apostle Paul was a former Christian-hater who was finally given the honor of dying for Jesus Christ. Let's never forget that God can make a believer out of anyone.

Yep, that's how I understand it also. I think it's a figure of speech rather than a literal idea. If so, there would be no one on the left-hand side, as it were.

Newbeliever, don't give up hope, "with God, all things are possible". Keep praying, as will we. :prayer:

P.S. Let us know when he does accept Christ

Jesus is the right hand of God.

Psalms 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Psalms 17:7 Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.

Psalms 48:10 According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.

Psalms 60:5 That thy beloved may be delivered; save with thy right hand, and hear me.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.

Isaiah 41:13 For I the LORD thy God will hold thy right hand, saying unto thee, Fear not; I will help thee.

Where does our salvation, strength and righteousness come from? Jesus Christ the Lord.
It makes a cool study :D
