This seems like a stupid question. However, in my studies I have only found Lucifer mentioned once.

Isa 14:12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
Reading this Scripture one would get the impression that this is talking about Satan.

Luk 10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
However as you read closer you start to wonder if Isaiah is talking about Satan. Now, probably like a lot of people, I was brought up believing that Lucifer was one of the angelic hosts who got lifted up with pride in his heart and decided to rebel against God. He convinced 1/3 of the angels to follow him in rebellion and he lost his bid for heaven. Thus he became known as Satan, The Devil, The Prince of Darkness, etc. However we can find passages which call Satan the serpent (linking him to the garden of eden and Eve's temptation). We can find Scripture which refers to him as a dragon, as The Devil. I have not been able to find one verse which says that Lucifer is also called Satan.

Here's where my question comes in. The more you read in this passage of Isaiah about Lucifer the more interesting the description of him becomes.

Isa 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

Isa 14:14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Isa 14:15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

Isa 14:16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

Isa 14:18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house.

Isa 14:19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.

Isa 14:20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.
Since when did an angel have a grave? Notice he is referred to as a man. Now I am aware of Revelation 12. The question I have is this, is Lucifer Satan? Perhaps someone could shed some Scriptural light on this. I would appreciate any Scriptural references and any other references you can give. Thanks.

Hi kingdom come. I was taught that these verses refer to satan but I have since changed my view.

It seems to be talking of an earthly king (the king of babylon?).
IIRC the hebrew refers to either the planet venus or the assyrian or babylonian god of the dawn. I would have to go and check up though.
The planet venus appeared on the horizon around dawn but was chased away by the rising sun. It did not ascend high into the sky llike Jupiter (the king planet).
Thus this imagery is used to possibly refer to this king who will not ascend to the heights.
Jerome in his latin translation translated this as lucifer (latin for light bringer or venus) referring to the planet venus again which heralded the coming day.

Hope this helps..I don't get over here much but if you want some info PM me.

The prophet Isaiah was talking about the King of Bablyon, and this is what the passage is about, just like Ezekiel talked about the King of Tyre [Ezk 28] But we could say that though this two prophets are speaking of earthly kings, they seem to be comparing them to something/someone else. If you read Ezk 28 you'll see a lot of it makes sense for the King of Tyre, but some doesn't. Things like, you walked in Eden, on the mountain of God etc. I think we could say that these passages are talking about earthly kings, comparing them to this fallen angel.

Leviathan appears to represent a "fortified city". I see most prophecies as being against the House of Judah/Levi so I would assume this "might" be symbolically Jerusalem. Jesus even called the rulers "of their father the devil". At least this is how I have viewed it. Levi's house was God's chosen to serve in the temple of God but they became corrupt believing they were a "light/shining" for God, and before we know it, John and Jesus show up and proceed to "lay into them":|
Satan falling like lightening represented their power weakening as the gospel of Christ was spreading I believe, at least in my view.
Hard not to look at most of the OT as against the House of Levi[see Malachi]. God bless.

jeremi 50:6 " My people have been lost sheep. Their shepherds have led them astray; They have turned them away [on] the mountains. They have gone from mountain to hill; They have forgotten their resting place.

Isaiah 27:1 In that day the LORD with His severe sword, great and strong, Will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, Leviathan that twisted serpent; And He will slay the reptile that [is] in the sea. 2 In that day sing to her, "A vineyard of red wine! 3 I, the LORD, keep it, I water it every moment; Lest any hurt it, I keep it night and day. 4 Fury [is] not in Me. Who would set briers [and] thorns Against Me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together. 5 Or let him take hold of My strength, [That] he may make peace with Me; [And] he shall make peace with Me." 6 Those who come He shall cause to take root in Jacob; Israel shall blossom and bud, And fill the face of the world with fruit. 7 Has He struck Israel as He struck those who struck him? Or has He been slain according to the slaughter of those who were slain by Him? 8 In measure, by sending it away, You contended with it. He removes [it] by His rough wind In the day of the east wind. 9Therefore by this the iniquity of Jacob will be covered; And this [is] all the fruit of taking away his sin: When he makes all the stones of the altar Like chalkstones that are beaten to dust, Wooden images and incense altars shall not stand. 10Yet the fortified city [will be] desolate, The habitation forsaken and left like a wilderness; There the calf will feed, and there it will lie down And consume its branches.

gene 49:3 "Reuben, you are my firstborn, My might and the beginning of my strength, The excellency of dignity and the excellency of power. 4 Unstable as water, you shall not excel, Because you went up to your father's bed; Then you defiled [it -- He] went up to my couch. 5 "Simeon and Levi [are] brothers; Instruments of cruelty [are in] their dwelling place. 6 Let not my soul enter their council; Let not my honor be united to their assembly; For in their anger they slew a man, And in their self-will they hamstrung an ox. 7 Cursed [be] their anger, for [it is] fierce; And their wrath, for it is cruel! I will divide them in Jacob And scatter them in Israel.

Firstly, the "triumph song" in Isa. 14 are a proverb (v. 4). Therefore, expect to find more than is what is written on the surface.

The parallels between the OT prophets and verses in Revelation should tell even the casual reader that there is a futurist application to the prophets as well as an historical context.

(Isa 14:4) That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!

(Rev 18:18-19) And cried when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, What city is like unto this great city! {19} And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and wailing, saying, Alas, alas, that great city, wherein were made rich all that had ships in the sea by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

(Isa 14:15) Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

(Rev 20:2-3) And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, {3} And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

Our key to understanding is in verse 9:

(Isa 14:9) Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

dead. Heb. Rephaim. This is a proper name, and should not be translated. Where it is translated it is always rendered "giants" or "dead". The word refers to the fallen angels and/or their progeny. App. 23 and 25.

These fallen angels serve only one master, and it's not some flesh man.

Yes, revelation is a spiritual type of "babylon" and I believe is also representing Jerusalem. There are also 10 horns on one beast and 2 horns on another. These could be 2 nations, one having been divorced by God and another playing the Harlot.
So yes the OT and even the NT though spoken of in past tense sometimes apply to the future.
I see most prophecies against the House of Levi and Judah so that is why I am looking at revelation that way. It is not the end of a world, but end of a heaven and earth on the world.
Anyway, I understand what you are saying brother.

No doubt about the deity of Christ here.:amen:

reve 11:16
And the twenty-four elders who sat before God on their thrones fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying: "We give You thanks, O Lord God Almighty, The One who is and who was and who is to come, Because You have taken Your great power and reigned.

I was skeptical when I read the replies to this thread, but my own research shows the same. The TWOT talks a lot about halal, which is the root of the Hebrew, but this word is used only once. TWOT calls it a hapax legomenon, which is a complex word that means that the word in question is only used once in Scripture.

...learn something new every day :)

Thanks

I also believe this to be a future prophecy .

Quote - "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.

Psalms 48 gives us a clue as to what it means to , "sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north".

Quote - "A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised In the city of our God, In His holy mountain. Beautiful in elevation, The joy of the whole earth, Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north, The city of the great King".

This Lucifer is going to sit (where he ought not ) in a temple , in Jerusalem , on Mt Moriah and claim to be God.

To tell you the Truth, It has to be someone that was chosen by God to represent Him, such as a High Priest, and who betrayed Him. It appears God's anger was so burned against the House of Levi I can't help but think that is who "lucifer" is symbolising. His burning wrath seemed to be against the rulers of His "lost sheep" and you can see this just in the way Jesus was confronting them in the NT. I distinguish between the "apostate rebellious rulers", and the "lost" jews that followed them. Much like Egypt's pharoah with the Hebrews. It appears it is a mirror image of that. Just my humble opinion and the way I have viewed the bible ever since I first read it. God bless.

Zechariah 3:1 Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to oppose him. 2 And the LORD said to Satan, "The LORD rebuke you, Satan! The LORD who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! [Is] this not a brand plucked from the fire?" 3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and was standing before the Angel.

Isaiah 1:10 Hear the word of the LORD, You rulers of Sodom; Give ear to the law of our God, You people of Gomorrah: 11 "To what purpose [is] the multitude of your sacrifices to Me?" Says the LORD. "I have had enough of burnt offerings of rams And the fat of fed cattle. I do not delight in the blood of bulls, Or of lambs or goats.

Malachi 2:1 "And now, O priests, this commandment is for you. 2 If you will not hear, And if you will not take [it] to heart, To give glory to My name," Says the LORD of hosts, "I will send a curse upon you, And I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have cursed them already, Because you do not take [it] to heart.

2 "But who can endure the day of His coming? And who can stand when He appears? For He [is] like a refiner's fire And like launderer's soap. 3 He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver; He will purify the sons of Levi, And purge them as gold and silver, That they may offer to the LORD An offering in righteousness. 4 "Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem Will be pleasant to the LORD, As in the days of old, As in former years.

Matthew 23:1 Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, 2 saying: "The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. 3 "Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, [that] observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. 4 "For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay [them] on men's shoulders; but they [themselves] will not move them with one of their fingers.

Leviticus 16:1 Now the LORD spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they offered [profane fire] before the LORD, and died; 2 and the LORD said to Moses: "Tell Aaron your brother not to come at [just] any time into the Holy [Place] inside the veil, before the mercy seat which [is] on the ark, lest he die; for I will appear in the cloud above the mercy seat.

Isaiah 28:14 Therefore hear the word of the LORD, you scornful men, Who rule this people who [are] in Jerusalem, 15 Because you have said, "We have made a covenant with Death, And with Hades we are in agreement. When the overflowing scourge passes through, It will not come to us, For we have made lies our refuge, And under falsehood we have hidden ourselves." 16 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: "Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, A tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily.
