You happen to mutate something useful or you pass on your genes to someone and suddenly you realize, you've just done some evolving... Pop quiz: how are you gratified? Are you gratified that you have advanced evolution or are you self-satisfied?

Evolution, the theory, would seem to be ambivalent on this point, as to how people should be satisfied. This is undoubtedly because evolution is itself very ambivalent about what is derivative and what is absolute. On the one hand something evolves in a derivative fashion and on the other hand evolution is true in an absolute fashion, never changing on the basis of what evolves (because it is held up as a hope that the next evolution will bring something better).

There are those who say that evolution is something you can't seek, experience or remember, making it a lot like the emperor's clothes. The purpose of this thread is to work out whether evolution is something you can enjoy, in a sense. I hazard an argument here and suggest that if evolution is something you can't enjoy, there is something wrong with the theory.

Well you have just about covered the delusional but where do the atheists, non-Christians, and Christians vote?

This is about a debate over the validity of evolution. If you don't feel that you can answer the poll, it is because you would like to change the nature of the debate but can't. The poll was kept simple deliberately.

No it isn't. This isn't a debate at all. Thus far, you've spouted nonsense. What you're saying doesn't even cohere into a meaningful set of ideas, much less an argument or debate. Please come back when you're ready to stop babbling about something you made up as you went along.

You sound so incredibly selfish and materialistic in this post. It's truly astounding.

Not his intention I'm sure, he's just grasping at straws lately. Ealier, he was arguing that evolution can't be true because he has no memory of it happening.

Once again you have demonstrated that you do not understand the process of evolution at all. I do not evolve, because I am an individual and individuals do not evolve. Populations evolve. That is, GROUPS of people will evolve. GROUPS of antelope will evolve. GROUPS of fish will evolve.

Also, you claim that something can't be accurate if we don't enjoy it. Chopping me up into little pieces over an hour will kill me, but I won't enjoy it. However, the fact that I won't enjoy it doesn't mean there's something wrong with the idea that it will kill me.

Please, learn what evolution REALLY is, okay?

Evolution works on populations and not individuals. Since evolution works on mutations, when individuals acquire mutations we call that cancer. Individuals are involved in evolution when they pass on their genes. They do this because they are driven to it by natural factors within them. Humans are no exception to this.

You heard it here first folks! Scientific validity is now determined by personal appeal only!

Gravity forbids me to spontaneously fly. This makes me unsatisfied (where's the number I call?).
Therefore, the theory of Gravitation is wrong.
Therefore, I can spontaneously fly.

...

...

whee!

Pop quiz: how are you gratified? Are you gratified that you have advanced evolution or are you self-satisfied?

If I were a genetic researcher, I might feel satisfaction that I had used my talents to create an genetically altered lifeform.

If I were to become a father, I might feel satisfaction at having created a child.

I don't personally care about "advancing evolution" or passing on my genes, however. I would find that bizarre. However, my satisfaction at actualizing a talent or creating a child might very well have some evolutionary biology explanation.

There are those who say that evolution is something you can't seek, experience or remember

Who says this?

The purpose of this thread is to work out whether evolution is something you can enjoy, in a sense. I hazard an argument here and suggest that if evolution is something you can't enjoy, there is something wrong with the theory.

I can't imagine why evolution theory would be dependent on the enjoyment of evolution as such.

Let's ditch this guy and go evolve a second set of arms. I need the ego boost.

You chose arms? I was thinking of something else.

Gottservant, you have been informed many, many times regarding what evolution is and how it works, yet you continue to start threads which have no relation to reality. I cannot believe that you are so uncomprehending that you don't see this, so it is a mystery to me why, unless you are a modern practicing Dadaist (something I have asked you about before, but you chose not to comment), you bother.

Perhaps you could explain to us why you steadfastly ignore all the helpful attempts very knowledgeable people have made to explain these things to you.
