  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I not only build my own, I sell computers. :) It's weird, we've sold probably no more than 20 computers, ever, and we've sold most of them to universities, NASA, and other "big" organizations. It's sorta cool. (Downside, we have an educational discount, so we don't make much money on it.)

'sfun.

The only thing I did is put better video cards in to play my games or add more Ram, but to build the hole thing from scratch. Nope!
Ah the one thing that OEM's sacrifice far too often, video cards. They should be equiping their $1200 or so PC's with 1.8-2.0A P4's and GF4 Ti 4200/4400 cards not 2.53 P4's and GF4MX's.

I don't mind it, it's kinda fun. Only, sometimes, I wish they'd let me work on it, and not want a play by play commentary on what I'm doing. 'specially since half the time I don't know, I'm just fiddling and looking for things wrong, following rabbit trails ;)

Mine is originally bought pre-made system. But that was 6 years ago.
My uncle upgraded it for me with other parts, and recently, I have added some RAM, changed the video card (bought a second had TNT2 M64 off my friend), and a new sound card.

I really don't know how to build a system though.. >< gotta learn it someday! hehe

I build my own.
I built an Athlon 1,400+ghz on an Epox board and added Nvidia AGP running a Samsung SynchMaster monitor. I went with a sound card because, first, I had it, and second, I like my speakers. But the on-board sound jacks are for power speakers. My speakers don't have the power switch. I took them from my old Sony stereo.

A couple years ago, I bought a bunch of used towers - nearly complete - for $20.00 each. I took them apart and mix and matched to come up with 4 nice pentium systems. Can't beat $100.00 bucks for that many systems!

I eventually upgraded some of the equipment on a couple of the mix-n-matchers.
