I would be happy if he championed the poor. Championing immigration these days seems like it’s championing illegal immigration though. And championing the environment is great as long as that isn’t a religion all its own. I’d be OK with that kind of progressive, for the poor, championing legal immigration, and for the environment.

I have a family friend who is currently trying to become an American citizen after marrying someone who is like an Uncle to me. She is from Brazil and the paper work, forms, statements, and the MONEY they've had to spend to get married in Brazil and then have her work through legal citizenship in the US is appalling. He delayed his retirement so he can keep working, just so they can afford all the fees.

When you live in a dangerous area with no services and barely any food, you're desperate to go some where that might offer you safety, medical care, a job, and enough money to cover basic needs. But so many of them can't afford to come here legally because they literally have nothing that our country requires them to have (documents and lots of money).

I'm hopeful that he will carry the cross of caring for our poor. I do not envy anyone trying to go through the process legally.
