A speech - even a speech by the President - is not subject to such strict reporting requirements because it carries no legal weight and imposes no obligation.

But it IS a historical record of what was spoken, and if it is changed from what was spoken, it is a literal rewriting of history.

Is it actually intended to be a historical record of exactly what was spoken though? Is there any requirement that it be? I would think that the intent behind the speech is more important from a historical standpoint than the exact wording. It's not like any policy or official position would be based on something said unintentionally.

The positive spin that people try to put on Biden making multiple "mistakes" per day is interesting to me.
Why? Our last president just had his verbal gaffes and lies just sit there.

Would it be better if nothing happened after he said it?

If we believe that words have meanings, then yes. The definition of "transcription" is "a written record of words or music". It's not what we wish was said, or what should have been said, or what was meant to be said. It is a written record of the words spoken.

I would think that the intent behind the speech is more important from a historical standpoint than the exact wording.

I would not.

Again, words matter. If you want to have an addendum at the end of the transcript that clarifies "intent", go right ahead. But a "transcription" simply records what was stated.

I'm not sure what's so difficult to understand. A transcription is nothing more than a written record of what was actually spoken.

Are they? Let's look at one of the more egregious "corrections".

“It was then, through no — through my American Rescue Plan — which every American [Republican] voted against, I might add — we made the largest investment in public safety ever,”

This isn't a "correction". It's changing what Biden actually said.

But, we know what he meant, amirite? I guess that's good enough, even if he can't seemingly make it through a single speech or statement without countless "corrections".
Of course since every republican DID it doesn't seem to require much grace to assume he misspoke a word.

Now some of trumps word salads? I am curious if they also got corrected.
Everyone knows that he is a muppet.
Ooo!!!

Who is the puppet master?

Are you a Soros guy? Or more of an Obama guy? Is it deep state? Thr Clinton's?

Big gay? Which one??

I love it when a 79 yr old man says the wrong word so he's obviously part of a vast global conspiracy.

The term "muppet" is British slang for a "fool", "idiot" or "someone who is prone to making silly mistakes"
