  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was wondering, if people come out of Africa, how do you get blue eyes out of brown. I found the answer.

Eyes with no color in them at all come out blue. Hair with no color is red or blond, and skin with no pigment is white.

The further south you go, the more protection you need from the sun. So the eyes, hair and skin gets darker for that protection.

As you go north, where there is less sun, they need to be able to absorb more of the suns rays. So they end up with blond hair, blue eyes, and white skin. There is no pigment to block the sun.

If this is not classic darwinism, I don't know what is.

If you look at the hair, there could be two races there, because everyone has either blond or red hair. But when it comes to the skin and the eyes, as far as I know, we are all the same.

What is a "race"?
Humans adjusted to different settings of environment. But the outward adaption has nothing to do with intelligence, social behavior inclinations and other things not related to environmental surviving.
BTW, every toddler´s eyes are blue, they get their staying colour quite later.
The same with blond hair. Every natural blond has the chance to darken with growth and change the colour.

Genesis 1:26-31
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. [27] So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. [28] And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
[29] And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. [30] And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. [31] And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

It is not all natural selection when it comes to mating. On the solomon islands, the population of one island has the darkest skin of any people anywhere on earth. On a nearby island, the people are olive skinned. Both groups are related (similar languages), and the environments are nearly identical (tropical). THe differences are most likely due to ideals of beauty.

Migration of populaltions also needs to be taken into account. The natives of Tasmania were very dark skinned, even though Tasmania has a climate like the Oregon coast. THey hade been there a long time too. They had migrated there overland during the end of the last ice age when sea levels were lower (early European exporers were preplexed as to how the inhabitants got there since they did not know how to make boats, and islands inbetween AUstralia and Tasmania were uninhabited).

There is a group of dark skinned people in the Philippiens called the Negritos. They have pretty much blended in now with the rest of the people living in that area of the world.

My wife is from the Philippines. I ran a search of her last name on the computer and found it is a fairly common name in the universitys in India. You will find a few of them up in Spain. So it is a petty sure thing that her family migrated to the Philippines from the north. When she gets mad, I give her a hard time and say they must have stopped of in Mongolia and picked up a few genes from them along the way.

The idea that races were separate creations was the justification for racism prior to 1859. I'm saddened to see you revive it.  However, other than the Biblical verses which didn't back your claim, what evidence do you have for the claim that humans evolved from food gatherers and food producers?

There have been several recent articles in Scientific American and Discover reviewing recent work on the evolution of skin color.

1 G Kirchwager, Black and white: the biology of skin color. Discover 22: 32-33, Feb. 2001.  Nina Jablonski and George Chaplin have first comprehensive theory of skin color.  Need sweat glands to cool skin and brain; then need less hair for sweat glands to work better.  Then need dark skin to protect from sun on hairless skin.  An hour of intense sunlight cuts folate (vitamin B) in half.  This results in neural tube defects in embryogenesis. Folate also necessary for sperm production.  Skin color correlated to sunlight: the weaker the UV light, the lighter the skin.  There is also an inverse relationship witht the production of vitamin D.  UV is necessary to make vitamin D from cholesterol in the blood vessels in the skin.  Don't make enough vitamin D and you get rickets.  So there is positive selection for lighter skin in less sunlight.

BTW, this answers to some extent LFOD's example of Tasmanians.  Even with the cloud cover, the UV gets through.
