It doesn't have anything to do with racial profiling.

Have you heard the song? I thought it was pretty obvious:

They see me rollin'
They hatin', patrollin', and tryin' catch me ridin' dirty
Tryin' catch me ridin' dirty
My music so loud, I'm swangin'
They hopin' that they gone catch me ridin' dirty
Tryin' catch me ridin' dirty

"ridin' dirty" is what "they" are hoping to catch him doing, not the act of racial profiling. If it was the profiling it would be "they ridin' dirty", not "they hopin' that they gone catch me ridin' dirty"

OT, I think Weird Al is one of the most original musicians out there. Kinda like Apologetix.

I don't see how you correlate the phrase riding dirty and racial profiling.

However, riding dirty is a phrase used to clandestinely say that a vehicle has been crated for transport of illegal/illicit materials.

Which is exactly what this song was about, contrary to popular belief.

I don't see how those lyrics can be mistaken the way some people take them...

"Yesterday, I was supposed to do an interview for '20/20' for the song 'Ridin', about racial profiling, and they cancelled it, and that ruined my week, you know what I'm saying."

Can you post a link to that quite? As it's written, that's very ambiguous. And even if the song is about it, given the context that he used, the term "riding dirty" obviously isn't. Disect the sentance. They are wanting to catch him in the act of something. How could they catch him racial profiling?

I misunderstood the initial question. I agree that the phrase "ridin' dirty" refers to illegal activity. However, the song is definitely about racial profiling:

"Thinkin they'll catch me in the wrong, they keep tryin (Keep tryin)
steady denyin that it's racial profilin'"

From what I can tell, the song "Ridin' Dirty" is about some people riding in a car, and the cops are hoping they'll catch them "riding dirty" with drugs and stuff, so that they can arrest them or whatever. I believe it's about racial profiling... they're talking about the cops wanting to get them, whether they really have stuff or not.

Way for me to be unclear! Ahh!

The song is about moving illegal drugs. It's basically talking about the situation of the ghetto. Several economists have affirmed this - if you do not do illegal jobs you won't survive. It's practically impossible. So, being young, many kids in the ghetto are sucked into illegal activities to survive. However, if the song Ridin' Chamillionaire talks about how many cops have become racists and specifically look to bust people, which, often, results in police brutality. And Chamillionaire specifically states that the cops make the assumption he's "ridin' dirty" because near the end of the song he states, "and when you realize I ain't even ridin' dirty, bet you'll be leaving in an even madder mood." So, no, the song does not promote moving drugs. If you want other artists that portray the literal trap people in the ghetto are born into, check out Tupac. Excellent artist (and make sure to look through his work throroughly). A few songs I recomend are Brenda's Got a Baby, When Thugz Cry, and Dear Mama.

I was a cop up until June of this year, in a town with a very large low income area one might call, a "ghetto".

No cop I ever worked with displayed even the slightest bit of racial profiling.

After a while you learn that people that wear this this way, with these colors or in this order, who are around this specific area, at this specific time, are usually partaking of such and such.

It's not profiling, it's experience.

I'm not saying racial profiling has never entered into the realm of law enforcement. Unfortunately in the past, it has. But this is a new era of law enforcement. Standards for certification are quite high, with employment being higher.

I detest these types of displays of reverse racism.
