  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

while on my watch.

probably just a random act of two guys with a dispute.

Thats the kind of thing you could expect in a prison...based on what I have heard (a friend works in a prison). Most people in prison have hot tempers, that probably why they are there in the first place (among other things). Keep going and doing the bible study. See this as a test of your resolve. I am certain you can do it

Ecclesiastes 9:12
"Moreover, no man knows when his hour will come:
As fish are caught in a cruel net,
or birds are taken in a snare,
so men are trapped by evil times
that fall unexpectedly upon them."

Random things happen. Unexpected things. Will that change how you walk with Jesus? It shouldn't. Here's a prayer for you:

Psalm 142
A maskil of David. When he was in the cave. A prayer.
"1 I cry aloud to the LORD;
I lift up my voice to the LORD for mercy.
2 I pour out my complaint before him;
before him I tell my trouble.

3 When my spirit grows faint within me,
it is you who know my way.
In the path where I walk
men have hidden a snare for me.

4 Look to my right and see;
no one is concerned for me.
I have no refuge;
no one cares for my life.

5 I cry to you, O LORD;
I say, "You are my refuge,
my portion in the land of the living."

6 Listen to my cry,
for I am in desperate need;
rescue me from those who pursue me,
for they are too strong for me.

7 Set me free from my prison,
that I may praise your name.
Then the righteous will gather about me
because of your goodness to me."

No, it's not persecution. That word is overused. You have to remember, these guys are lost. Lost people act this way because they are ...well ... lost!

It's up to us to show Jesus to them, by how we treat them, how we talk with them. Prisoners have issues just like the rest of us. Christians have Jesus to rely on, who does the non-christian have?

Realize that the reason you are doing this is to share Christ with them. That is all you are called to do. God takes care of the rest in his time. Even if every one in the group slapped you in the face, you did what you were suppose to do - share the love of Christ.

Psalm 119:148
148 My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises.

All of us are on watch and responsible for what happens around us.

Psalm 127
1 Unless the LORD builds the house,
its builders labor in vain.
Unless the LORD watches over the city,
the watchmen stand guard in vain.

But the Lord must be with us to do anything correct.

Song of Solomon 3:3
3 The watchmen found me
as they made their rounds in the city.
"Have you seen the one my heart loves?"

The watchmen are the church.

Isaiah 21:8
8 And the lookout [a] shouted,
"Day after day, my lord, I stand on the watchtower;
every night I stay at my post.

It's our responsibility to stay on our post.

Is 32:14 The fortress will be abandoned,
the noisy city deserted;
citadel and watchtower will become a wasteland forever,
the delight of donkeys, a pasture for flocks,

To abandon it is to make a wilderness

Isaiah 56:10
10 Israel's watchmen are blind,
they all lack knowledge;
they are all mute dogs,
they cannot bark;
they lie around and dream,
they love to sleep.

Or worse, they see and say nothing.

Isaiah 62:6
6 I have posted watchmen on your walls, O Jerusalem;
they will never be silent day or night.
You who call on the LORD,
give yourselves no rest,

A true watchman.

Jeremiah 6:17
17 I appointed watchmen over you and said,
'Listen to the sound of the trumpet!'
But you said, 'We will not listen.'

The responce of Israel.

Jeremiah 7:11
11 Has this house, which bears my Name, become a den of robbers to you? But I have been watching! declares the LORD.

But the Lord sees all.

Jeremiah 24:6
6 My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back to this land. I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them.

Jeremiah 31:6
There will be a day when watchmen cry out
on the hills of Ephraim,
'Come, let us go up to Zion,
to the LORD our God.' "
