Which is more important or has more authority, the King James bible or the originial greek and hebrew texts from which it was translated?
The reason I ask this question is that I run into people who say that the King James version of the bible is the only correct translation. However, there are newer versions which were translated from the original texts by more modern scholars who had access to more historical information which could give them a better idea of what the contexts were. You can't just translate word for word without knowing the contexts or the changes in word meanings over time. On top of this, these translations are to modern day english, so instead of translating one form of english into the meanings of modern day english, it's much more direct.
If you say it's because the KJV was divinely inspired, well, weren't the original texts divinely inspired???
I just don't understand this reasoning...
