Which version of the Bible is the correct one?

What we all use now are translations from the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek texts.

So, if you have a copy of the original text...you have the correct one. Otherwise, you have to rely on people's translations.

Hi Clean Slate. The most accurate Biblical translation is the King James Version of the Bible. Some people find the english used in it a little hard to understand though so they use other translations like the NIV. However there are problems with those translations. Something I discovered just the other day actually is a version called the King James Version 2000. It is available all over. With this version they kept all of the content and only changed the difficult to understand words into modern day english. Here's a sample...

Original King James
Matt 7:8
"For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened."

King James 2000
Matt 7:8
"For every one that asks receives; and he that seeks finds; and to him that knocks it shall be opened."

Pretty great eh! You get the preserved accurate text without anything missing, and in a language that you can understand!!

The KJV2000 is a really good one-BT is right. I use the KJV and The New Living Translation. I find it helpful to have more than one. For the most part I use the KJV as a back up source. The NLT breaks up each chapter and puts a header that breaks up each event. This makes it easier to find something you're looking for later on.

The King James Version is the closest translation to the original Greek and Hebrew texts. I use NKJV (The New King James Version) and NIV. I've never herad of KJV2000, but that is basically what the NKJV is. It's the KJV with a more version of the English language. It's also a good idea to keep an easier to read text around. I prefer the NIV (New International Version), but the NLT (New Living Translation) and the CEV (Contemperary English Version) are also very good. I hope I could be of some help

Any answer on this is going to be subjective. The best I can say is since I am not a fundamentalist and do not believe in Biblical inerrancy or literacism but do believe it, even things I disagree with, to be of divine inspiration, is, act on recommendation of your own church or someone you respect. In some cases where you wish to discern larger meaning, comparing two or three translations can be productive.

Above all beware of potential self-appointed messiahs who are making their own translations; some are as dangerous as David Koresh. BTW do you know why Koresh visited Sea World? To see the seven seals.

The Geneva version used by the Pilgrim fathers, which pre-dates the KJV is as good if not better. It was long in use in England after 1611, and the bible of the Puritans. It was originally translated at Geneva in 1560. You can buy facsimile copies in the USA of the 1599 & 1560 Geneva versions. They are also good because they have a lot of interesting notes. I have a copy myself (an original).

You might want to check out some other helping websites such as...

biblestudyforum.com or crosswalk.com

I personally like the bsf because it gives the original Strong's concordance with the information for each original word... I find that highly useful especially for threads here at the CF site. These sites both have access to different translations and I'm sure if you went to a search engine you could find many others sites which provide the same kind of online Bible resources. Hope this helped!

Personally... I think the NASB is closest to original... I wish I knew how to read and speak Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic. That would be soo cool!

Hey Crab.. I used the NKJV for 10 years and I loved it. I only recently found out that it contains a couple of flaws.... which shocked the socks right off of me. So I switched to the KJV and this new KJV2000 is awsome too....

Just as info... I mean, the NKJV is a lot closer that some of the others out there..

Yeah Job I'm learning Hebrew and Greek. It's fun, but tough. I'm using a copy of the TR to do my studying.

as far as which one is correct,only the original greek,hebrew,aramaic is correct.there are letters,words,phrases that may mean many different words in english,spanish,etc..the one that speaks to you and is most easy for you to read is what's best for you.

The Interlinear Bible is a very good study bible.  It has the Hebrew, Greek, and English.  It also has the Strongs #'s above each word for reference.  It is the Sovereign Grace Publishers.  I use it quiet often.
