  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Lots of new military folks here! That's great! I'm a B-52 radar navigator. After 4 years of ROTC in the US Army, I decided not to commission, and went back after 5 years of civilian work. After talking to the US Army and the USAF, I was amazed that the USAF would let me fly with my vision, so I chose USAF. I've loved every minute!

Hey, the USAF gets shot at just as often, and by much higher caliber ammo. Granted, it is less often and we know when to expect it. And granted that only the fliers and Combat Controllers and ALO's typically get shot at.

I enjoyed my time in the Army, and reccomended it to my son who just got out. Of course if the thought of getting shot at makes you nervous you8 could always join the civilians in uniform, the USAF!

The airforce gets shot at: SAMS, Air-to-Air Missiles, AAA, etc...

This was meant as a joke. :sorry: I am sorry you both took it the wrong way. I even stated that it was a joke in the message. I know Marine and Army officers are with the enlisted and guess what even Air Force enlisted are in Iraq right now in harms way. At the end of my comment I stated I would recommend any branch of service. I am sorry again that you all got so upset without reading the whole state or understanding it. Could you both explain to me how you could read the statement and get so upset and let your anger take control of you like that? I am just curious because I know I wasn't trying to hurt anybody. I was trying to let people laugh. If the way I worded it didn't make sense then please forgive me and lets move on.

That crack about the Marine officers is a crock. My husband is enlisted and I am saying it is a crock. As a matter of fact, the last deployment my dh had, there wasn't enough room to get the whole unit home at once and the officers who weren't flying their own planes stayed behind so the rest of the enlisted men could get home first. Every single USMC officer I know is right out there with their guys. So I guess that shoots holes in your AF has the smartest members argument. You are clearly speaking from opinion and not actual fact.

I don't care if he meant it as a joke or not...she is right...the Marines Officers are in the same suck as the enlisted...

If you are planning to enlist, I would suggest the Air Force. The Air Force has the smartest enlisted members. The officers in the Army and Marines send the enlisted off to fight. The Navy officers and enlisted fight on a boat, but the Air Force enlisted send the officers (pilots) off to fight. Just kidding! I would recommend anyone of the services. I only prefer the Air Force because I am in it!

First off, I didn't "let my anger take control of" me. I went right out after posting to the high school homecoming game and forgot all about the whole thing after I posted. As far as explaining why I didn't find your "joke" funny, well, I don't, personally, enjoy humor at other people's expense, and I won't apologize for that. Sarcastic humor doesn't translate well over the internet. I know a lot of people think that insulting people under the guise of a joke is acceptable, I am not one of them.

But trust me, this whole board was the last thing on my mind until just now, and I wouldn't have even responded now if you hadn't asked for an "explanation".

I guess I don't belong in this forum here, because even though my husband is a Marine, and I joke around with other Marines and their wives about stuff, they are people I know and who know me, and my jokes are never cruel. I don't find it amusing to be insulting to other branches, and I don't enjoy cruel humor. I guess my sense of humor isn't "military" enough.

Anyone ever wants to chat...pm me.

Daveleau, I was watching the military channel, and military analysts were determining the top ten bombers of all time. Anyway, they rated the B-52 bomber as the best bomber of all time.

Pretty cool. I didn't see that show. Do you remember what the name of it was? I'd like ot see it. It's kind of hard to pick between the B-29, B-52 and B-2, but I think they made the right choice. :)

The name of the show was "Military Machines:Top Ten Bombers." You can watch it on the Military Channel aka Discovery Wings.

I am currently studying for the ASVAB .. I want to join the Marines... My first choice at 17 was the army. At one point during that time I thought of the Marines but rumers were it was so hard and it made people crazy. So now that I have built up my relationship with God I want to go for what seemed impossible before. My second choice would be the Airforce. Maybe. Never thought about joinning the Navy though.

The Army is the largest and offers a lot of opportunity. Think of it as the middle of the road between the Marines and the Air Force. Instead of going to sea for 6 months to a year at a time (Navy, Marines) you go camping for weeks or months at a time.

The Navy is large and offers lots of travel and opportunity also, slightly better technical training than the Amry however you send a lot of time at sea. If you prefer mopping to digging holes in the ground, the Navy might be for you. :)

Marines, if your looking to change who you are/become a lot stronger and harder at all costs then the Marines are probably the best way to go. Lot's of time on ships also. It's the hardest service raise a family, should you choose the military as a career.

The Air Force is an excellent alternative to military service (just kidding, hehe.) They take good care of thier people and provide excellent training. Former Air Force can go into any of the other services (just in case you change your mind,) the Air FOrce rarely wants people from other services. The best service to raise a family should you decide to make the military a career.

Hope that helps. They are all capable of challenging you, if that's what your looking for... you just have to decide what type of challenge you want.

Well, im in the Navy now with the best rate in the world, hospital corpsman. I cant really say I would join anything else because the reason I joined was for the medical experience and the Navy has the best, but from all accounts Ive heard the Air Force has the best life. I definately dont want to make a career out of the Navy, just make the best of my 5 years I'm signed up for, and get a decent paying civilian job. The military is good experience if you're willing to put up with ******** half the time.

Were I not already in the Air Force, right now I would probably prefer the Marines. However, when I joined, the Navy was my second choice.

My sons are now getting old enough to think about it. My wife and I highly recommend my oldest son to choose Air Force if it's for life, Army or Marines if it's for college money and adventure. He's probably gonna get a full ride for piano or trumpet, so he may net ever join. I'm a little sad about it :sigh: , but he needs to make the decisions that work best for him. I would never pressure him to entire the military.
