yes, joining the corrupt church-state alliance and its persecution of dissenters does affect salvation. To be part of the system you have to disobey God and misrepresent Him and persecute anyone who disagrees.

I know, but since you know when tribulation ends, you can follow the government until a very short time before it ends and then repent at that short time. Yet this is not how it is supposed to work with the mark of the beast. With the mark of the beast, once you take it in the middle of the tribulation, you can't repent even though you still have half of the tribulation left to do so. Thats why it sounds more like a physical mark from this POV. Yet it is supposed to be spiritual too. So I am thinking it is more like a mind control device of some sort.
