1. To be treat people with kindness and grace, even if you don't agree with them.

Or...

2. Make every possible effort to make sure you're right and always get the last word, no matter what.

First, one should always treat others with kindness and grace... until they give sufficient reason not to.

I don't believe choices 1 and 2 are mutually exclusive? (assuming "Make every possible effort to make sure you're right" is the part that happens before the dialog). One can be kind and graceful while getting in the last word...

May I suggest you take some time and look through the posts on this board? It'll take a lot more time, but you're likely to get a more honest answer.

i agree with schism, i am number two, but i try to do it with kindness and grace..because argueing can open peoples mind and make them open for anything, which wi what humanity should be like, but mostly we are close minded individuals, so argueing is a way to open each others minds

Hmm, I suppose I would be number 3 - a wildly vacilating answer scope which depends on my mood that day - sometimes I'm like "Hey, disagreement is part of the process" and sometimes I'm like "burn thier house, sift the ashes and salt the ground so that no trace of them remains."

Of course since I tend to talk about topics that I am more than likely passionate about, I guess I get more involved. Plus, I really really hate abstract discussions which judge people (all in theory of course, of course) so I often try and make it so the person has a choice, if they really believe what they say, then they should be attacking me, personally. If the discussion is "All thongs are evil." Then I am like, "I have thrown out everything except thongs, I only wear thongs!"

i would say a combo.

1. treat others with grace, but never compromise on biblical morals. :)

A good question, but nobody has the guts to admit that they are #2.

I am though--I argue to the last to keep an open mind. If you do not intend to keep an open mind there is no reason to be on forums--the whole idea is to share ideas--not to shoot them down.
not so sure about your saying no one has the guts to admit that, you did ;) Plus you find posters that say their only reason here is to debate.
