Enid Blyton featured a lot in my reading. Another favourite was Patricia St John. It was interesting to read her autobiography in later years and discover that most of her books were based on her own experiences.

There were others, but those are the only 2 I can remember right now.

Beverly Clearly, Bruce Coville, K.A. Applegate (Animorphs series), and the Goose Bumps series. Those were all some of my favorites when I was little.
It sounds like you are of my children's generation as I remember the Animorphs series and the Goose Bumps amongst their books. I don't recognize the other names.

Well, I was always a pretty advanced reader...but I think I remember some children's book authors.

C.S. Lewis, I love the Chronicles of Narnia
I read Beverly Clearly, I loved Ramona
I don't remember who writes them, but the magic treehouse books.
Whoever rights Junnie B. Jones
I love Beatrice Potter (I think thats her name?). I loved Peter rabbit and Nutkin.
Dr. Sesus, can't go wrong with green eggs and ham.

Louisa May Alcott was my favorite writer. But of all the books, I think Swiss Family Robinson was my favorite. Especially when I was sad, I would read it. The family closeness portrayed in the book was a great comfort to me.

Definitely with you on Bruce Coville, R.L. Stine (Goosebumps & Fear Street), and the Animorphs.

I was also a sucker for the more "classic" novels and writes like Mark Twain, H.G. Well, Jules Verne, and L. Frank Baum. When I 10 or 11, I loved reading the illustrated classics series that were edited for younger readers.

When I was a child I fantasized about stepping into the large built-in wardrobe in my brother's bedroom and finding myself in Narnia, but I think I appreciated the Narnia Chronicles more as an adult - The first time I read the opening lines of Prince Caspian I closed the book in disgust at the thought of the characters being whisked away to Narnia without warning.

Beatrix Potter is the one you're thinking of. Her stories are lovely. I think I'd like to read her biography. I'll be going on vacation in October near to where she lived.

Dr Seuss was enjoyed by my older 2 children, but I haven't come across the other authors you mention.

I was, and still am, a big Madeline L'Engel fan, specifically "A wrinkle in Time" and "Many Waters". "Waters" was my first exposure to the concept of Christian fiction. I also got into Orson Scott Card's "Ender's Game" in high school.

I love the time quintet!

I also ready most of william sleators stuff as a kids. 20+ books.
