1 John 4:1 says, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” Well, false prophets, and anyone who asserts falsehoods, are not from God. The Truth comes from God. God is the Creator of all things, and all things are bundled in the Truth. What some may do, who were created in the spirit of God’s Truth but unknowingly or intentionally go astray is a burden for them to resolve. At the same time, we are warned to avoid such people.

For the rest of us, God’s Truth is in His Spirit. What form does the Spirit of Truth take place? It has no shape or form, but is there in those whose faith is in God. Lord Jesus in John 14:17 says that the Spirit of Truth will not dwell in those that neither know of it nor are receptive to it. But it dwells in the rest of us whose faith is in God.

The Spirit of Truth shines bright in us as the things we do which emanate because of our faith in Him, are a measure of that faith. How do we know when someone speaks or does things in the name of the Spirit of Truth, or when we are being deceived by someone who is not acting as such? How do we know absolutely what the truth is, under God? As God is the Truth, and the Bible is the Word of God, the Truth is whatever is in the Bible. We are permitted to learn of its truths by way of reason, as provided for in Isaiah 1:18 that we may have an understanding. But what’s God’s is God’s, and whatever is ours is subject to reason. God is the constant in our existence, but we are the ever-changing variables from ashes to ashes and dust to dust.

How do we test the spirits? We settle upon what we perceive of our formulations of the basic teachings in the Bible. Would we believe someone who lies, when the Bible tells us that the Spirit of Truth is not within them? Would we comply with their direction and go by their advice, knowing that the things like the laws of government that he is promoting are not an extension of God’s Will as determined by Romans 13:1? Would we listen to those who in our general pursuits of everyday living and production advise us on things we know to be contradictions of the warnings of what we find in the Bible? With the Spirit of the Truth dwelling in us, we avoid such people, since they would lead us astray and we may find ourselves in a place that is hard to return from.

Romans 8:14 says, that all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. What higher form of respect and honor can we hope to have, short of entry into God’s Kingdom?
