  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How do you get your idea for your story/ stories? I was just reading an X-Men comic in a bookstore when I suddenly had the urge to go home and begin the outline for a new story (Which conveniently came with a title). If you look closely you could see that it and the comic I was reading bear some similiarities (but you have to look really closely.).

Anyways, I was just wondering, where did your story come from? What gave you the idea? What was that starting point that gave birth to your creation?

Avatar: The Last Airbender. I had a friend in school who talked about it nonstop and begged me to read the Avatar fanfics she wrote. It was annoying (and I don't even watch that show) but it gave me an idea for the setting and a vague idea for one of the characters in my book.

i get some of my ideas from books i've read and movies i've watched. i mean, i don't copy or anything but if there's something i like in a book i sometimes write something similar or combine a bunch of separate elements from different things i've read or seen into a story. for example, ever since i was a kid i've loved books/movies that have characters that are twins, like in Star Wars, Anne of Green Gables, Twelfth Night, etc... so the main characters of my current story are twins. i also get lots of ideas from the way i think a movie or book should have been. i've seen so many movies that would have been so good if they just had this one thing in them, or that had a different ending, or whatever. so i take the ideas that the author or director didn't use and use them myself, if you know what i mean.

I get idea from tons of stuff!!

Like Elf_Lady I'm kinda partial to the twin thing I've found ^_^ At least my two main characters in my fav. story I'm writing are twins ^_^

But really...anything. And most of the time I can't even make the connection between what inspired me and what it inspired me to write! A flower a saw in Jamacia was my inspiration for a young mage named Dragonflame who was a slave and was tortured for seven years. More of her story developed while I watched, "March of the Penguins" with my sister....so....yeah :D

I get ideas from all kinds of things...sometimes, I dream the plot or characters. Sometimes, I watch a movie and fall in love with the feel or essence of the movie, and try to recreate my own with little similarities. Sometimes, a song inspires me. Sometimes, life experiences do it (I have MANY of these)...sometimes, I just sit down and say, "I want to create a new story today. What shall it be?" and I sit and think until something comes to me.

As for my allegories, I pray and ask God to give them to me so that I can more easily learn a difficult Biblical or spiritual truth. He never fails to answer! :)

I love dreams....one time, I wrote an entire short story off a dream I'd had. It was a weird dream, and the story I wrote was very weird. ^_^
:amen:

I have elements of stories that come from dreams...but only once have I ever actually based a whole story on one.

As silly as this sounds, some of my ideas come when I'm in the shower.

You're not alone, I also take showers to think. Usually I stand under the warm water for an hour going over my day & what I could possibly write about. Currently I am drafting a reply to an opinion in my school newspaper, one I may need to take multi showers to complete. ;)
