• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Where do people actually GET good Christian help for dealing with PTSD? I mean actual help, from someone who knows what they are talking about? Is a Christian therapist who charges $125 per hour my only option? Because, honestly, I think I'd rather suffer than pay that. I'm not a member of a church, and despite my best efforts, I typically end up being invisible when I try to become one, so I don't think that I'm about to find any kind of support system there any time soon. I've tried contacting local pastors for help. Without going into detail, they didn't make me feel like they were very interested in trying to help me. My insurance covers therapy, but I've dropped out of that on 4 separate occasions because it is secular, and I felt guilty about trying to follow a secular path to healing. I honestly just don't know what it is that I'm supposed to try next.

I had a good therapist, that was very understanding although she was not bent toward any drastic denomination. She worked on the local hospital in town, with Youth, but had private practice in evening. I did not go to the one nearby because I did not trust her. It was about 65 Dollars/Hour. I live in Europe, I would suggest You continue Your search. We were simply discussing through things in life, and getting a perspective. Nothing worse than that. I and my husband has also gone through marital therapy in Church with a Licenced therapist for some year. When he retired we quit going there. That was free.

You could talk to your gp and ask him for a referral to a therapist. If you didn't care for the secular therapist, then going to a Christian counselor may be your best option. Your gp or ob/gyn may be able to give you some good recommendations.

I don't think you need to feel guilty about 'secular' healing. All healing is from God, regardless of who delivers it. The evil one cannot heal anyone of anything; he can only destroy. So you have nothing to worry about if seeing a secular doctor; none of us has.

If the therapy helps you, then it is of God. If it does not help you then move on to someone else.

I suspect the problem could be the challenge of therapy itself; perhaps you are really not ready as yet to face up to whatever has caused your PTSD. It may be better to take a break for a while, and return to finding a therapist in a few months. Perhaps concentrate on building up your relationships with safe friends and family instead, and collect a few happy memories to help when the therapy begins again.

I wish you well.

It is okay to have a secular path to healing from PTSD. I have read books on PTSD that were secular and they still helped me. You may find you like the secular therapy. God will understand that you are in need of help and don't have the ability to pay for Christian counselors.
