Let's share some ideas. . . .
Where do you go to meet new people of the opposite sex?
bars / lounges?
coffeeshops?
bookstores?
church functions?

(you don't have to pick one of those - in fact, I'm hoping you don't giggle ) In real life - in YOUR real life - what / where are YOU doing / going to make new friends of the opposite sex?

wow! I feel bad - I must be the only person who doesn't have enough friends who actually close enough to hang out occasionally with.

It sounds like the two ladies who responded interpreted the question as looking for a date - - and that's not at all what I intended the question to mean. I really mean, just friends, pals, buddies - -as in, growing your circle of friends, but not just same gender friends.

Since I'm apparently the only one who has room in my heart and life for more friends. . . I'm currently taking applications. God bless all the rest of you whose lives are so full. Take care of those friends. They are truly a gift.

Many of mine are too - - problem is they are starting to marry off *giggle* so I need to keep growing. I used to meet people thru work - but about 8 yrs ago I changed to a very small company so need some ideas.

Do the guys on this site not have female friends? Wonder where they meet?

Hmmm. . .. that's a whole 'nuther question I guess - - since you & I at least have guy friends but guys don't seem to have female friends. . .??? How does THAT add up?!?!

Ideas (from real life - not the standard "canned" responses) anyone?

The people I'm closest to don't live near me and I've never been one to go out to meet new people. Extreme shyness keeps me in the background and quite invisible.

Helllooooooooooooooo ............ hi yah!

Where do I go to meet new people of the opposite sex? hmmmmmm....

ummmm I don't really go anywhere but work, home, and church. No dating here.

Online I go to christian singles sites and have many male and female friends on the computer but in real life off the computer I usually don't have money or interest to go out on the town. I stay home with my kids.

I have just recently started to focus on things to do for myself more because I have been raising my two kids alone all their life, and my main focus was on them, but now they are both teens, g/16, b/17 with only a couple more years of school left and so many other things they wanna do besides hang out with mom, and so here I sit with no personal life of my own wondering if maybe I should venture out more lol
People at my work sort of shun me because of who I am in Christ and so I am left out of the women groups at work, don't get invited to go to luncheons and etc.....
But that is ok I just be who I am and the Lord has blessed me in other ways so I don't feel like I am missing out....

yeah, your daughter soooooooooooooooooooooooooo leaves you in her dust! Is there ANY one in your community who DOESN'T know and love her?!?! She's soooo amazing! (easy to see where she got that)

I have tons of "hello acquaintances" - very few local FRIENDs. Figured I wasn't the only one (or HOPED I wasn't) - that was the reason for starting this thread.

RC & I have a friend in a cornfield in Iowa who always tells me to keep growing friends *giggle*

I dont really have many actual 'friends'. I have not lived up here long, and do not hang out with my old friends so much now since I became a Christian. Sadly most of my old friends are into Drugs and or Witchcraft, so I stay away.
I have met quite a few people in school, but I dont know that I would consider them friends yet, just aquaintances. I usually end up having more female friends than male. I always have, dont know why really?
Anyways, I dont recommend Bars for finding friends but Church, Church groups, School and the gym seem like ok places to meet people of either sex for friendship.

Well, this is a good question. Most of the friends that I grew up with have all moved away. Most of the friends I make now are either through work or through my church activities. Sometimes I make friends through my other friends. You know, I will hang out with one friend and they will bring one of their friends along and we will all end up hitting it off. I also make on-line friends now. The only problem with that is that some of them are so far away I don't know if we will ever get to met in person.

Now as for the opposite sex, I don't seem to be meeting many of those. I met mostly guys who are already married. Makes me wonder where in the world I was when they were looking!

Either/both. It helps to be doing something you enjoy. I relaxes you, and gives you an excuse to blow someone off if you don't want to hang out with them.

I have female friends..........lots of them, in my church. A few of them love me to pieces and want to mother me which isnt surprising as they are well into their 70,s or 80,s lol There are a few others, mostly from other churches i have attended in the past.
I also have one very close female friend who's now in Australia but we keep in touch regularly and have known each other for nearly 20 years. We started out going together but didnt feel right about it so mutually decided to remain friends and have been so ever since. Ive met one other female friend through CF who lives less than 5 miles from me lol. Im in no hurry to find Mrs Oworm and the desire for marriage has become less urgent as the years roll by lol.

i came to London 3 years ago and had to start from scratch....the main ways i have met people is through cell group, work, gym and now through friends. i go out a looooooooottttt and am fortunate to travel around Europe lots too - i meet a huge number of people because i am reasonably outgoing. Meeting people is not that hard - just be friendly and smile a lot. However - it is not about quantity but quality - that is much more difficult - then i think the best way is through other people and therefore friends. i once read that one should 'fish in the right pond' - church is a good one or do a bible study course or things to do with Christians in business/art etc whatever you are interested in. Also pray for God to bring the right people into your life - i prayed for my friends and God answers prayers. i dont think you can sit at home hoping it will happnen - go out and enjoy life and have faith that God will bring the right ones at the right time (and in between you will develop patience!!!) You sound really great, good luck! L
