I want to start with something to help me really believe. Words of Christ maybe. But I don't know where that would be. I know it's New Testament but that is all I know.
From the beginning is my advice. It helps to read how it all started so as to know why it progressed.

Hey there!

Old Testament was set aside because Jesus is the priest according to a different order (Melchizedek's order) than that which ministered the law of Old Testament (Aaron's order). The law of Old Testament was "set aside" (Hebrews 7:18). So, surely it is better if you read the New Testament. The way I did it, I read one chapter of gospels and one chapter of epistles a day, every day. You can also read it straight through like a book. Don't be afraid to "miss something". There is error in everything in this world (1 John 1:8), and praise God it is all atoned for by Christ already, in advance (Heb. 9:12). You can also try the random chapter tool I created at biblestudyhelp.net.

P.S. Old Testament is useful in the sense that there is lots of God's wisdom there, and an unlocking of many symbols of the New Testament.

P.P.S. As you read, don't take things too literally, always think about what they can mean. This is because Jesus spoke to people in parables (Mark 4:34), while interpreting them in private to those that sought it (like the apostles asking Him for the meaning/clarification afterwards). Many a man, woman and child made this mistake on account of lack of mentioning of this by the pastors or the teaching literature. As a result many mistakes have been made by many, since letter kills (2 Corinthians 3:6).

I have very different from others, but let me share how my mother trained us in reading God's word daily when we were young. She told us to read the Chapter of Proverbs corresponding to the date. There are 31 Chapters so one Chapter per day. This helped us build our quiet time. As for me, after almost memorizing Proverbs (I think I read it for 4 to 5 months) I transferred to Genesis.
Hi; I knew a married couple that had read a chapter of Proverbs every day for many years!

Some churches offer a "Through The Bible In A Year" book that you can purchase or get for free. I suggest you attend a church and find one of those to start with a basic reading plan.

Otherwise I would say start with Genesis and read through the whole Bible gradually.

Oh, I hope I am first to post this... Start with the gospel according to John. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." That is one of the most profound statements ever made in the whole world, ain't nothing else like it, the wowness of it.
Excellent suggestion!

It's good to read the Bible daily and systematically.
Its an important habit; the Bible can help in almost every situation; just flick to the concordance and away you go (search box if you are online or using an app).

It's good to look at a verse's context also.

Yes, feeding on the bread of life (John 6) is so important.

I always saw reading the Bible as a chore; I love it now, listening to it, even better.

It's the believer's vital life: the Lord Jesus is the living and eternal Word and the Bible is the written Word, of which the Lord Jesus and His work and the Cross are central.

A lot of ppl listen to CDs of the Bible while they drive.

I could use one of those; may have a look online, perhaps Amazon or something.

PS: I know some preachers think it's good to get to know one's Bible so well that the concordance becomes unnecessary! :)

Good idea but a lot of memory work in that.

You should start with the Gospels and then read the acts.
I recommend reading through those a several times, maybe a verse or a chapter aday for a periode before you read the OT.
You know that Christ is the final revelation to mankind so despite the OT being valid and important, the new convant is what makes us Christians.

Also you should stay away from the Revelation until youre more grown up in the faith (been a believer for longer time and with greater insight) and maybe also wait with the book of Job as most theologians struggle with those two books despite being heavy educated in the field.

I agree with the recommendations of reading John. I also suggest Matthew chapters 5, 6, and 7 which is the Sermon on the Mount. James is a good beginning one too, in my opinion.
