esword is a great resource, but he doesn't have the septuagint itself that I can remember. I could be wrong, but I don't think so . . .

It has it. One problem. It doesn't have the english translation of it. It has the greek. So if a person reads greek , it is great. But otherwise....

Here is my speculation. Educated guess.

The hebrew for great destroyer in the verse is very strong language in the original. In looking it up , the original hebrew is utterly destroys or wastes.

What is being destroyed or wasted ? The amplified translators obviously feel it is their very life that is being thrown away or wasted.

In other words , he that is slack in his work is wasting the life that God gave him and it is like a from of suicide. I am assuming that the translators take the phrase is like a great destroyer as meaning is like someone who committs suicide. they have chosen death over life because they are throwing away the life that God created them to live.

Also [in addition to this], the Amplified [The Bible translation being referred to] does a lot of explaining [expounding upon, referrencing to, giving further incite] within the text of scripture [the Bible, holy writ, God's word]. So, could it be that the phrase "he who does not use his endeavors to heal himself is brother to him who commits suicide." [Proverbs 18:9b, found only in the Amplified (the Bible translation being referred to)] is meant to explain [expound upon, reference to, give further incite] the meaning of Proverbs 18:19a even though it doesn't use brackets [the literary symbols used to explain, expound upon, reference to, and give further incite in the Amplified (the Bible translation being referred to)]?

One issue that I think needs mentioning here is the jews do not always agree amonst themselves. Christians often read the bible about the Pharisees and think that all jews agree. But don't forget , there were also the Saducees and the Essenes and several other sects. It is like that today , as well.

uhhh, My understanding is that the new living translation is much more a paraphrase than a literal translation?

The NLT is based not from the greek or hebrew texts directly, check out this sight, it will tell you that the NLT was basically a revise of the Living Bible (and it was a paraphrase) http://www.bible-researcher.com/nlt.html

9 ¶ (LXXE) A man who helps not himself by his labour is brother of him that ruins himself.

Online Bible is a program that's been around since the late 80's I think. One of the first bible computer programs. It is similar to e-sword where you can build your translations that you wish to compare. Has quite a lot of commentary material and books also, here is the North Atlantic home page,..

http://www.onlinebible.net/

Sometimes you can find other material to add to your program from other sites on the web, since people sometimes design their modules around the program so they can just utilize it's ability to view their material. They don't always add their material onto the sites webpage though.

The thing is, almah is never used for anyone who is reffered to as not being a virgin, while bethulah is.
It is used in the phrase "the virgin daughter Israel" when Israel is being accused of spiritual adultury!
So... yeah.

almah is always used when virginity is implied or flat out stated.

Behtulah is used more generally.

note from Bible Gateway
Proverbs 18:9 This verse so reads in The Septuagint (Greek translation of the Old Testament). Its statement squarely addresses the problem of whether one has a moral right to neglect his body by "letting nature take its unhindered course" in illness.
That seems to be all I could find in any of the resources I could find..
I guess it means to neglect the body is to destroy the body.
I'm not sure of what your refering to Atlantians?

I have another translation of the lxx from the Apostlic Bible,..

The one not repairing himself by his works is brother of the one laying himself waste

Seems that they have read into it too much with the suicide thing. Although it can be taken to that degree, I don't see how suicide is really the topic that GOD was talking about here.
