  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are several popular theories.
1. He always was. He is eternal and infinite both in past and future.
2. He created Himself. Dunno how exactly that works, but whatever.
3. God created time. Cause is a function of time. God was the first cause, and the universe as we know it included time was the first effect. Thus, God being around "before" time (since English doesn't really have a good words for dealing with things outside time I hafta use before), God wasn't under cause and effect.

There may be others that I am not familiar with.
I personally believe number 3.

I have read the Bible several times, and I don't recall the bible telling an answer that we humans can really understand (I think there are some vague verses, like everlasting to everlasting). He is probably beyond our understanding. But He does give us some help, if we really seek Him wholeheartedly to learn Truth and seeking life, hope, love.
