is being single such a curse I'd have to see it as a barren existence? I don't see it that way now *shrugs*

You would be barren because you would be childless (most likely). Christians aren't supposed to have children out of wedlock, though it does happen. I just threw the barren part in there since barrenness would be the natural result of a lifetime of singleness (usually).

ok. I took it to mean that you meant a single existence = meaningless and empty. which for me it really isn't.

No. I think you can have a great and vital existence WITHOUT a mate. I know I do! But I still wanted to know what thoughts people might have when they turn 70 and are still single.

@ 70, I would like to look back and this would be my conversation to God:
"Hey God, It's me, Andrew again. I was just thinking about the last 70 years and it got me to thinking about me and You. I've known you a long time now, and You've been there with me through thick and thin. When friends and family passed away, You comforted me. In my most trying hours, You lifted me up, got me back on my feet and brushed the dirt from my clothes and the tears from my eyes. Thank you Lord, for loving me so much and being with me all these years. I know I've failed you and haven't been as grateful as I should have. I could never repay what Your Son did for me so long ago at Calvery. I am so thankful that You'd loved an old wretched sinner like me and saved my sin stained soul. I never would have thought that you would use someone who was so weak and feeble minded to do a work for you. Preaching the Gospel has had its up and downs, its sorrows and rewards. I wouldn't trade what you've given me to do for nothing. I can't wait to see You face to face one day soon. I don't know how long I have left on this earth, but regardless of how my life has been, I am looking forward to spending eternity in heaven with You. and Lord, when I get there and you give me that white robe and crown, I know that I'll kneel before you and place that golden crown at your feet. I'd give it all to you Lord, Your Grace and Glory got me this far, tis the least that I can do. I look foward to seeing Mama there, and Dad. Well, I'm sure my grandparents will be happy to see me. Oh how I miss them so, but soon I'll be walking in that city of endless day with them, where we'll never grow old, have pain, sickness or sorrow. Lord, I love you with all my heart, in Jesus' Beautiful and Holy Name I do Humbly Pray. Amen.

Because you're assuming that we're all going to be single and alone and childless in 30, 40, 50 years. It's a ridiculous assumption to begin with, and it serves no purpose other than sounding harsh and callous, and making people feel crappy about being single. Why not ask people how they'll feel when they're happily married and surrounded with children and grandchildren at 70? It's a more likely scenario than the one you presented. More people marry and have children, than don't.

The fact is, neither you nor anyone else here can say what tomorrow, or the future, holds. It's all a matter of perspective. If you want to ask that question, go ahead and ask it in your own thread. But this one is about the question I asked.
I see no purpose in giving people false hope when there is no reason to believe they will be married or whatever then. Just because a lot of people get married doesn't mean everyone here will. And we also know that half of all marriages will end in divorce. So what can we say to that then? They will still wind up alone, unless they remarry, which the bible mostly cautions against.
