  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What do you conjure up in your minds eye? Do images appear in your imagination? I was walking home from work tonight and praying as I walked and it struck me, I don't imagine any image of Jesus, just His deeds and the perfections of God revealed in scripture. When I try to imagine an image it's just shoulders and sleeves but no hands or head/face. Now that I've been thinking about it I do call to mind artist renderings but not normally.

When I pray I am aware of the majesty of God in Christ Jesus. I don't see a face nor do I seek to but a man sitting on a throne who is God my elder brother. I always seek to bow my heart before Him before I even begin to pray. I am in mind of David who came before the Lord in 2Sam. 7:18-29. I also think of Isa. 6. That is how I try to prepare my heart to pray.

At other times I simply pour out my heart in supplication to my sovereign Lord.

This is one reason I've never watched a 'Jesus' movie. I don't want some irreverent actor who thinks he can portray the gaze of the Son of God burned in my mind's eye.
Any images associated with God are of 'Jesus', and intentionally vague and blurred whether meditating on Him as crucified, or glorified, etc.

Throne idea is pretty cool. Never liked to pray but if I did I would totally do the throne thing. Cool stuff old chap! :D
Just remember it is a throne of mercy and grace as well as a throne of judgment. Our sovereign Lord delights in mercy.
