Hello Everyone!

I just recently accepted Jesus as my Savior, and I was wondering when would be the best time for me to get Baptized. I want to be Babptized soon, but then on the other hand I want to wait a little bit longer. I am confused. Can someone please help!

Thank you,
Mirela

Talk to your pastor about it! What reasons do you have for wanting to wait? He may be able to walk you through some of your questions or concerns. I still remember everything about my baptism, it was such a special day for me!
Take care!

Once I was saved, I wanted to get baptised right away, but I let God lead me on it, I prayed about it on a Monday and by Friday I couldnt think of anything else but that and spoke to my new pastor about it. We spoke prior to baptism and made sure i understood it etc.
I think Marchiebaby has the right idea, talk to your pastor, but first talk to God and let Him lead you on it.
And
Congratulations on accepting Jesus as your savior.
*Extending right hand of fellowship to you*

Congratulations on accepting Jesus as your Saviour! You are in good hands now. I was recently baptized (on Easter Sunday to be exact). It took me almost 2 months after receiving Jesus as my Saviour to get baptized. Not understanding how it was going to be and what it was all about made me wonder if I should or when I should. What helped me along was asking questions. Talking to the pastor, talking to the church members and even talking to my friends. Tell them your concerns and I am sure they can help you understand. I sure was glad that I did. What I thought was going to be overwhelming ended up being a very special day for me. What a great way to show Jesus that you are His forever.

Pray for guidance from God, he will give it to you.

God Bless,
newbeliever :)

Thank you all! I will definately talk to a pastor soon about being baptized. I will also pray to God for his guidance. The reason that I planned on waiting was so that I can grow a little bit deeper in my faith. I also wanted to know more about the Bible. I want the world to know that I am a Christian! I will get baptized sooner or later!

God Bless

Now :)
As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, “Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?” Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” The eunuch answered, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. (Acts 8:36-39)

I was baptized 9 months after I was saved. I did not really want to do it at our church's normal baptizing day. Our church was very large and I'm a very personal person. So I was able to get baptized by the pastor who married us with just him, my now husband, and my parents. I really like the intimatcy of it. Not a million eyes looking at me. But each person's situation is different. If you are comfortable then do it sooner rather than later. Congratulations!

I am a little late to this one, but the Bible states in the book of Acts, that they were saved and then baptised, saved and then baptised.

Baptisim is the FIRST outward profession of an inward confession. It is the First act of obedience that a Christian is called to do.

Do you need to be baptised to be saved???............No you don't. If this were so then the Criminal that hung on the cross beside our Lord and Savior, would never had been told by Jesus "....I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."

Peace and Joy in the Lord Always!!

Thank you all for your replies! I have made a personal decision to wait until I am at my first permanent duty station for the Marine Corps. I feel thats when I will be most "stable" enough! I want to continue to grow in my faith and continue to read the word of God. I will probably get Baptized around February of 06. It's a long time away, but so well worth it. I believe it will be so much more special if a wait to get Baptized! Most of my new Christian friends told me they waited for several years! Well, thank you again!

God Bless

When I say "stable" I just mean know myself and my faith. Because I dont know much about the Bible, all I know is what happened to Jesus, Genesis and Exodus. I just want to know my faith more before I get Baptized. It will be special for all the reasons that I stated above. Yes, you are right I am motivated by fear. I am trying to get rid of my fears, it's working slowly.

What more do you nee to know other than you were a sinner and Jesus Died for you, and that you have prayed to ask for forgivness from the sins that you have and will commit. You belived that Jesus has payed the ultimate sacrifice for your life and mine. He died upoon that rugged Cross and bore our sins.

Why would you need to know anymore than that to proclaim your Faith in Him and profess your Love for Him in doing the very FIRST act of obedience ????

I would highly reccomend that you sit down with your pastor and tell him the same things that you are professing to us. Tell him your concerns. He can and should be able to help you out.

GOd Bless and Phileo in Christ Jesus

Why wait to be baptized? Why not do it as soon as possible? In the book of Acts people were baptized as soon as possible. Even Simon the Sorcerer, in Acts 8, who obviously wasn't concerned with the things of God was baptized as soon as he was said to have believed.

9Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, 10and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, "This man is the divine power known as the Great Power." 11They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his magic. 12But when they believed Philip as he preached the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. 13Simon himself believed and was baptized. And he followed Philip everywhere, astonished by the great signs and miracles he saw.

14When the apostles in Jerusalem heard that Samaria had accepted the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them. 15When they arrived, they prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit, 16because the Holy Spirit had not yet come upon any of them; they had simply been baptized into[c] the name of the Lord Jesus. 17Then Peter and John placed their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

18When Simon saw that the Spirit was given at the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money 19and said, "Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit."

20Peter answered: "May your money perish with you, because you thought you could buy the gift of God with money! 21You have no part or share in this ministry, because your heart is not right before God. 22Repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive you for having such a thought in your heart. 23For I see that you are full of bitterness and captive to sin."

24Then Simon answered, "Pray to the Lord for me so that nothing you have said may happen to me." 25When they had testified and proclaimed the word of the Lord, Peter and John returned to Jerusalem, preaching the gospel in many Samaritan villages.

And after Philip had told the Ethiopian about Christ, the Ethiopian was baptized very soon, in Acts 8 also.

26Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, "Go south to the road—the desert road—that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza." 27So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian[d]eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship, 28and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet. 29The Spirit told Philip, "Go to that chariot and stay near it."
30Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked.
31"How can I," he said, "unless someone explains it to me?" So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.
32The eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture:
"He was led like a sheep to the slaughter,
and as a lamb before the shearer is silent,
so he did not open his mouth.
33In his humiliation he was deprived of justice.
Who can speak of his descendants?
For his life was taken from the earth."[e]

34The eunuch asked Philip, "Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?" 35Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus.

36As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, "Look, here is water. Why shouldn't I be baptized?"[f] 38And he gave orders to stop the chariot. Then both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water and Philip baptized him. 39When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord suddenly took Philip away, and the eunuch did not see him again, but went on his way rejoicing. 40Philip, however, appeared at Azotus and traveled about, preaching the gospel in all the towns until he reached Caesarea.

I'm not trying to be a prude or anything, but I just don't understand why people wait so long after converting to be baptized. It just doesn't seem very scriptural to me.
