When they attack...

Ok, a friend and I were watching Land of the Dead and we got to talking about what you could actually do if something similar happened.

If you havent seen the movie, basically everyboddy who's already dead comes back to life as zombies. If they bite or scratch you, you become one of them in a few hours if they dont outright kill you. The only way to kill them is to separate thier heads from thier boddies or by putting a bullet in thier brains. Blowing them up and burning them also work.

So what would the best course of action be?

Society will reform itself rather quickly as humans are a very capable species. Large cities will erect and basically life will continue as it has just with a bit more precaution taken against death.

In other words, you just need to manage to survive for a couple months (Possibly baracade yourself in a mall with a small (50 or so) group of people or something along those line, go on a vacation if you have access to transportation, preferably to an island)... that is if you don't work for a government or civil organization that will reform society to deal with the new threat.


Basically what I am saying is that Hollywood exaggerates the weakness society has, it is much to strong. Take the godzilla film for example, if there was a giant lizard walking around new york, we would easily dispose of it, with say toxins in missiles, or hundreds of other possibilities. Unless your zombies are as smart in death as they were in life, its all good.

I would say just barracade my self and others up in most likely a building and preferably a tall one with no blindspots....I have played too many RE games and watched sooooo oh sooo many horror movies to know that something WILL take advantage of said blindspots. I would make some explosives and trip wire up the place not to endanger us but to blast the hordes of stupids up. hehe.....I would have lots of AK's or shotguns or pistols with the coveted hollowpoint. cuz im cool like that lol. I would have an IPOD or similar mp3 device and be playing some amon amarth or dimmu but mainly the best FPS song ever Dope's Die MF Die....oh yea thats a good song to nuke stuff. But since this is an unfortunate turn of events I likely would never be so prepared so I would prolly just strap some explosives to me and rush into the oncoming zombie hordes to protect the others....there would be more casulties in the zombie population if a fresh piece of meat was going towards them and they followed me lol.

BTW I loved Shawn of the Dead. lol funniest spoof ever! But since this will never happen I will prolly just play some RE or watch Dawn of the Dead* also a very good movie. God Bless!

Personally I would see if I could grab a chopper and head for an off-shore oil rig. You have excellent defenses and a ready supply of food. Also the chopper will allow you to leave the rig for short periods of time to get more food or possibly weapons.

Very good post but life never works quite the way we want it to either So likely we would have slighty intelligent very agile zombies. Also remeber the quote

I am not saying that it will be perfect. In the case of swift-partially intelligent zombies attacking us, we will suffer HUGE losses, especially in city areas, however we will survive and socieity will rebuild very quickly.

I actually see zombies as a disease. If you get too close to the disease, you will catch it and die. People who spend their time around diseased areas will more likely get it then people who do not. A new disease can and usually does kill tons of people in its initial areas especially cities. The disease always seems to somehow seek itself into unwanted areas for future contaminations, and diseases can sometimes kill large amounts of us. . . but we always survive them.

Besides, if the zombies cannot get too smart, not smart enough to organize real resistance vs army style defense. If they do then they will also be smart enough to realize what it is that they are and would not wish to continue most likely ending themselves in suicide. If they don't go into a meltdown from their existence, then this means that their existence is not really all that bad, not bad enough for us to reject them as abominations, and with that we will find a way it integrate them into our societies... from healing them, to maximizing their abilities.

Either way, society will adapt sooner or later, and a vacation sound like the best choice here
