  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Years ago a farmer owned land along the Atlantic seacoast. He constantly advertised for hired hands. Most people were reluctant to work on farms along the Atlantic. They dreaded the awful storms that raged across the Atlantic, wreaking havoc on the buildings and crops. As the farmer interviewed applicants for the job, he received a steady stream of refusals.

Finally, a short, thin man, well past middle age, approached the farmer. "Are you a good farmhand?" the farmer asked him. "Well, I can sleep when the wind blows," answered the little man.

Although puzzled by this answer, the farmer, desperate for help, hired him. The little man worked well around the farm, busy from dawn to dusk, and the farmer felt satisfied with the man's work.

Then one night the wind howled loudly in from offshore. Jumping out of bed, the farmer grabbed a lantern and rushed next door to the hired hand's sleeping quarters. He shook the little man and yelled, "Get up! A storm is coming! Tie things down before they blow away!"

The little man rolled over in bed and said firmly, "No sir. I told you, I can sleep when the wind blows."

Enraged by the response, the farmer was tempted to fire him on the spot. Instead, he hurried outside to prepare for the storm. To his amazement, he discovered that all of the haystacks had been covered with tarpaulins. The cows were in the barn, the chickens were in the coops, and the doors were barred. The shutters were tightly secured. Everything was tied down. Nothing could blow away. The farmer then understood what his hired hand meant, so he returned to his bed to also sleep while the wind blew.

MORAL: When you're prepared, spiritually, mentally, and physically, you have nothing to fear. Can you sleep when the wind blows through your life? The hired hand in the story was able to sleep because he had secured the farm against the storm.

We, as believers in Christ, secure ourselves against the storms of life by grounding ourselves in the Word of God. We don't need to understand, we just need to hold His hand to have peace in the midst of the storms. I hope you sleep well!

Enjoy the day! May God Bless You and Yours.

Great post. But I don't like this part of the message:

We DO need to understand God's words in order to fully walk with him.

I am not casting stones but you are incorrect.

We need to "do" and God will give the understanding.

Understanding is why something is happening the way it happens.
We need to stop trying to find out why and do what God want's us to do then God will increase your why.

May the God of all peace grant you, wisdom, understanding, knowledge and may you weild that wisdom, understanding and knowledge in truth, love and mercy.

But how can we do what God wants us to do if we can't understand what he wants us to do? Know what I mean
That is a great question.
You walk in faith and do what you believe the word is telling you to do. His grace is sufficient. The scriptures say that we go from faith to faith.

Hear is one of my testimonies on faith
http://christianforums.com/t739504&page=3 In the name of Jesus I pray it bless's you

As you walk more and more in faith and continue to be washed in the water of the word , or continue to read the bible. He will pour out more and more revelation and understanding.
The scriptures teach not to lean to your own understanding so I have made it a habit to pray this prayer or something similar before I read the word. "Holy Spirit you are my teacher in the name of Jesus I ask that you open the eyes of my heart and pour out understanding in my life. Pour out your spirit of wisdom and Revelation that I might know the hope of your calling. and fullness of who you are. In Jesus name amen.
I have grown leaps and bounds since I have started doing this.
We serve a faithful god

If this prayer sounds familiar it is the prayer that the apostle Paul prayed for the Ephesian Eph1:17-21 church. he was praying to Christians so tht prayer is to me and for me and I made it my own.

I hope this blesses someone.

May the God of all peace grant you, wisdom, understanding, knowledge and may you weild that wisdom, understanding and knowledge in truth, love and mercy.
