How did creationists react to the imprisonment of Kent Hovind? and will they welcome him back with open arms?

How did he amass all of his money?
Does anyone know how much he managed to salt away? or will it never be known?

he will be seen as a hero. Like robin hood back from the crusades, only without all that giving to the poor part.

Many creationists have a paranoia complex. It is the Evolutionists who are hiding the evidence and the Environmentalists who are lying about climate change. Hovind has exploited this paranoia and now the US Government is now anti-God making him a martyr.

How did he amass all of his money?

You don't really think that a DVD whose production cost is essentially nothing costs 10 bucks.

Then there is also Dinosaur Adventure Land, which costs 7 bucks a person to enter, Hovind said that his park had over a hundred thousand visitors a year in one of his videos.

I just had a look at Dinosaur Land, everything there has a price tag, and lots of things for sale,
it must be worth a fortune.

It's true what they say, there used to be one born every minute,
now it seems there's one born every 10 seconds,
it won't be long before they are born ready tattooed with 'MUG' printed on their foreheads.

All one can say is, well done Kent Hovind, take them for every penny you can,
even if he pays his taxes he'll be a millionaire many times over, and he gets to go to heaven.

the thing i am wondering about is if hovind will pay his taxes now.
he still doesn't consider his actions as illegal or immoral, so i wonder how long till he gets brought up on charges again for not taxing his workers or trying to evade playing by the rules

I think that creationists will welcome him back with open arms. God does forgive those who ask for it........it would be an assumption of all creationists that Hovind has asked for forgiveness.

I also think that they will welcome him back because they firmly believe that their biblical interpretation is correct. Nothing is going to sway them, and Hovind provides some (only some) legitimacy to their biblical interpretation.

One must remember that to attack creationism is to directly attack their faith - for them to accept anything else than creationism would mean their faith is wrong. It has taken me a long time to understand this concept. No amount of evidence will change their opinion.

Yes, it'll be interesting to see how he handles that part. I imagine something like "after much prayer, I have been instructed to submit to the unjust demands of the authorities so as to serve the greater purpose of continuing my ministry".

He does still have a devoted cadre of followers (although, as far as I can tell, not all or even close to a majority of creationists) so I don't think finding an audience will be an issue for him.

Yup that guy is all about the money.

You ever notice in the Hovind-Shermer debate how often he complains that he doesn't want his tax dollars paying for evolution to be taught in schools?

Not difficult to see where his priorities lie.

I don't mean to sound cynical, but I am, so that's how it comes across. I just hope he learns something from his time in prison but from the look of the comments on www.cseblogs.com (Hovind posts messages from prison on it for his followers to read) this is just a great man of God being persecuted by an eeeeebil government.

Hovind is hilarious but he's got those numb nuts by the short and curlys,
he's got them believing he talks to God with 'KneeMail', (I suppose that's another name for prayer)
and he's got God answering him, is there anything they will not believe?
and yes it's so very very sad, it's pain full to see.

With half the population harboring an IQ below average I think P. T. Barnum's
"There's a sucker born every minute" explains it very well.

At one of the fundamentalist or "conservative" news sites, I saw a reference to Hovind being a martyr and his imprisonment have to do with championing creationism; that the tax evasion charges were merely a excuse to imprison him. I did find this through a quick google search. http://freehovind.com/index

I'm actually impressed. That's one of the few fundy sites I've read in a long time that doesn't consist of a black background and red 16pt times new roman for EVERYTHING

*rages at incredibly awful web design*

But yeah, that aside, jail is the place for tax dodgers.

Having said that, jail can be the making of some, especially religious evangelists,
(what is the latest count on these people who have been sent to prison?)
even child molesters have come out to a heroes welcome.

There are countless people always ready to believe in conspiracy theories.

He could have killed 50 people, raped 50 women and still claim he was misunderstood,
and there would be people who would believe him,
so not paying tax on the money he duped them out of is guaranteed to keep his followers.
